Ubuntu & E17 ... match made in heaven?

I have used various CVS builds of E17 in ubuntu in the past as its by far my favourite desktop. But there is always a billion bugs (understandably as e17 is alpha still) and a ton of integrating to be done from generating menus and fixing apps to work with E17.

So nice to know someone is gonna take all that work away ( hopefully )

If they can pull this off in a fully integrated and stable way I will be impressed and should be out any day now!

I've had trouble with everything but Elive. It's still in development, and it shows. But it is nice to see a good, fast WM whose simplicity can compete with a whole DE.

I looked at acronymfinder.com to find out it means: "Free Virtual Windows Manager For Those Wondering!" But yeah, initially I had no idea.

FVWM FTW! = Fill_in_the_blank_with_whatever_f_word_you_like_at_the_time Virtual Window Manager For The Win! (note that that's from the official FAQ)

I know this isn't a completely new distro, but it seems weird how they keep making splits for new window managers. Ideally they would just make e17 work properly on normal ubuntu. Then you let the user do it themselves with synaptic or just ask the question during installation. If they insist on having different downloads to make things blatantly obvious with fewer choices for newbs, they can just tweak the installer to answer the question itself and offer different isos with the choice changed.

The sub-distro bits really aren't more than the 'desktop' or 'profile' packages other distros use to make a complete desktop setup, they are just farther-reaching in Ubuntu, covering more app/setting integration.
