Anyone got advice on buying one of these?

My friend is developing arthritis or similar in his hands and wrists so he can't hold a book for more than 5 minutes. He's tried book stands but he gets irritated with them and not all books fit properly. He'd like a Sony PRS-500 as his 30th birthday gift but they don't sell them in the UK, and even if you import it, the store only works for the US 😕 I know there's a rights issue over the screen in the UK but surely the store could be international...

My friend said the Iliad Reader is in excess of £400 which is double the cost of the Sony model  I also don't know where he'd get the books from with that?

Are there any other models or alternatives he should consider?

Yeah he can, but you can't buy the books from the UK according to their support FAQ.

I found a support page which says you can buy gift vouchers then credit them to an account. Sounds like the international iTunes hack to me?
