Let's say a school purchases 50 copies on an ebook, and puts them on school owned tablets with accounts registered in the student's names. Are those ebooks tied to the students? Or to the devices? In other words, the next year, does the school need to purchase a new set of ebooks for the next class?

That would probably be specified in the contract. There's a few ways it /could/ work, and being digital makes it non-obvious.

Nevermind, I finally found the answer online. Book has to be registered to the student. Thus, the electronic version, though cheaper per book, has to be replaced every single year.
