ebert and roeperhave both openly admitted they were not fans of LOTR from the beginning. so that right there tells you it wont be there. and i think a 3.5/5 from ppl who arent fans at all is a very high remark.

Maybe the Oscars can make an award for the best action spectacle with awesome effects, fights, and no interesting human characters. RotK is sure to win that one.

I've never heard anyone rave about movies ebert has given 1.5 stars
. No one can see every movie, so if you find a reviewer that you often agree with they are very helpful.

bottom line

they watch movies for free and get paid to go to events and review movies

atot pays to watch movies or downloads them

people care what they say
people don't care what ATOT says

Gotta love all the people wondering where ROTK is.

Whoever said it was a good movie?

Whether or not you guys are fans of the books or the genre, denying that the LOTR movies are three of the best epic films of all time is just retarded. They are clearly three of the best made movies of all time.

Shanti, this will be off-topic, but do you play GTA: VC MTA? I saw a guy with the same name as you driving a helicopter on one of the servers.

The more I read EW, the more I tend to agree with Lisa Schwarzbaum's recommendations.
She did the right thing and placed LOTR:ROTK as the best movie of the year.
Just for reference, here's the picks from Lisa and Owen Gleiberman of EW (you decide which pair pcik better films):
Lisa:
LOTR:ROTK
Mystic River
Lost In Translation
American Splendor
Finding Nemo
Master and Commander
The Fog of War
Kill Bill vol 1
The Man Without A Past
To Be and to have

Owen:
American Splendor
Capturing the Friedmans
School of Rock
Lilya 4-Ever
Bend It Like Beckham
The Magdalene Sisters
A Might Wind
LOTR: ROTK
Thirteen
Kill Bill Vol 1.

Note: the presence of two mighty films on both lists :)

The difference between Roger Ebert and you is that I think he would actually have something akin to the proper perspective to make that claim.

I'm a big fan of the books. I just thought the movies sucked.

What makes them the best made movies of all time? Because they spent a ton of money on special effects and enormous battle sequences? I mean really what's the point if they're not going to adhere to the storyline. Well, I guess it the point is that it's a kids movie plain and simple. I'm sure they sold plenty of Legolas and Aragorn dolls around Christmas time.

Don't expect it to win an Oscar for best picture that's for sure. As a matter of fact, I don't think any of the movies or actors have won anything other than awards for special effects - correct me if I'm wrong?

The acting was mediocre at best, they butchered the story line, and for such a state of the art production they had some monumental screw ups in the special effects department. I was blown away at the end ot the ROTK when the hobbits are standing before the King in front of all the Elves and Humans - it was the most horrible example of CGI I've ever seen.
