I have 'Ebay government relations' and 'ebay SMS service', both of them legit.

Andale provides the hit counters on auctions, they're legit AFAIK.
I really don't see the issue here unless you don't recognize one of them at all.

so in other words, this is much ado about nothing. people use 3rd party checkouts all the time.

now you have people freaking out about Andale and all they provide is the hit counter.

Well who knows what the random checkout services are actually authorized to do?

Class Action lawsuit against Ebay for privacy infringement ?????????????? They can afford a couple of million dollars for us.

I had AuctionWorks on mine

I don't know what exactly this 'third party access' means, but I don't like the sound of "authorize third parties to act on your behalf". For example, if one of these "third parties" decides to bid on some $5,000 item I don't want, wouldn't that mean I'm responsible for that bid since supposedly I authorized them to act on my behalf??

At best, this is terrible disclosure and communication by ebay. At worst it's a serious security breach.

This is an eBay seller's forum post.

It appears that there are risks.

The eBay community forums have lots of information, I haven't had time to browse much, but it appears there is much confusion about it there as well.

What does seem clear is that much of the information on your account including (but not limited to) mother's maiden name, last four digits of cc, etc., may be accessed by Authorized Third Parties. Also, it appears there have been scammers and malicious hackers setting themselves up as "third parties" to obtain this information.

That's all I have so far.

Thank you for sharing that. None of which really surprises me.

The way the TOS agreements are set up at Ebay you have to read through dozens of cross-linked pages to find any relevant info about this subject. Like I said a few pages back - there are 156 help topics listed for "3rd party access".
