This one has me just a little puzzled so far.

On May 24th I won an auction for a NIB 5770 video card, I promptly sent the payment later that evening by way of an instant bank transfer through Paypal. I didn't receive any communication from the seller, but that's nothing out of the ordinary. The seller has something in the neighborhood of 120+ perfect feedback, so I felt pretty good about it.

A few days pass and I don't hear anything from him and I haven't received the card yet, so I send him a polite message asking if all is well on May 28th. Then when I get home on that same day, I find a package at my doorstep. It's the (a?) video card, but the package itself just kind of seems funny to me, because it looks like it came straight from Newegg.

The box is a Newegg box, and there's no signs of the box having been re-used or re-packaged by a consumer. The return address is the same RMA warehouse in Whittier, CA that many of my other, real, Newegg packages share whereas the seller's profile indicates he is about 6 hours north of Whittier in Milpitas, CA. Also, the auction has free shipping indicating it was going to be sent by UPS ground, but the package I received was sent by UPS 2nd Day Air. The shipping address on the label has my correct name & address, but while my other Newegg packages show my (correct) 717 phone number; this one has some 810 number (Eastern Michigan) that I have never heard of. In fact, I don't think the seller would even receive my phone number as part of the Paypal transaction.

Inside the box is, in fact, the exact video card I ordered as well as a Packing List. The packing list looks identical to others I've received in Newegg packages, but if I try to look up the SO# (order number) at the top of the slip, I get a "No results found" message. The packing list's 'Description' shows the product name/model number of the video card.

In "My eBay" under 'Won' I see the blue dollar symbol lit up indicating successful payment, but no indication of a shipment. I see this same status in Paypal; successful payment with no shipment. Further, I have also not yet received a message back from the seller in response to me asking the status of the transaction on May 28th. Whenever I view the ended bid, I see "Congrats darkwaffle! You won this item in the last few minutes. The seller has relisted this item or one like this." with a link to "View relisted item" as well, which could be completely legit, but just seems a little strange given the circumstances.

What do you make of this? If the odds werent astronomically against it I would almost say I somehow was mis-shipped the exact item I wanted from Newegg while at the same time getting burned by the eBay seller. Thoughts? Appreciate it, let me know if I left anything important out which might make things clearer.

tl;dr Won ebay auction, paid, received item but it looks like it's from Newegg and eBay/Paypal both show "No shipment."

He just bought the product from Newegg and had it shipped to you. He either just 'drop shipped' it to you because he knew somebody wouldn't do their homework, or he could have had a gift cert. from Newegg to get rid of and kept the difference from your eBay purchase.

Does newegg do open box sales on ebay? It'd sure be strange but I don't necessarily doubt it.

NewEgg may also have reseller accounts.

Actually, some of these online retailers actually have no stock whatsoever. They just have a reseller setup with a distributor and their "in stock" and website stuff is just tied to the distributor.

I can't remember if NewEgg is one of them, but I have gotten stuff from online stores and their packing lists are exactly the same as TechData, a distributor - just the retailers logo and info. So they just take the orders and TechData does all the fulfillment.

Ebay and paypal only indicate shipment if the seller used paypal to print the shipping label or if the seller goes into his "my ebay" and just marks the item as shipped. So it really doesn't mean much.

Well it sounds like it won't really be an issue then. Wish I'd gotten a reply message from the seller though, ah well. Appreciate all the input.

And for the record, the card was almost $20 cheaper than the after rebate prices on Newegg including shipping; the whole point of using eBay was saving some scratch :)

If you are concerned about an employee of the egg stealing from them call them and ask about the order number you are having trouble with

Otherwise.. give the man top feedback

Wait>>I'm confused.. how are you looking up an order number anyways.. if it isn't associated to your login you better not be able to look it up

I can't look at the details of the order number, but I do have it as it is printed on the packing slip included in the box.

My guess... he got behind.. may have left town and forgot to ship your item.. bought you one from a site he can trust and voila

or he had a gift card or something like that

I hope I get that lucky on one of my purchases from eBay
