Ebay To Verify Buyers/Sellers

*SPEWS PEPSI ON MONITOR*

WHAT ABOUT #!^*$@& BIDDERS!!!!!

I find it disconcerting that if I am a new user and I want to sell a 19" planar LCD i have to get verified (check D/L number, mortgage payment, DOB, SSN, et al.) under current regs. But if I am a newly registered buyer, all i need is an e-mail address. WTF is this? Another *@!%$!# double standard.

Bidders cant rip people off since they have to send the seller the money first, and only the seller can rip people off by keeping the dough.

They can always do things. If they pay by paypal there are ways they can rip you off. I was in the position to get ripped off just a week ago.

I laugh at how naive you really are. You remind me of me a year ago. Wanna add up how much non paying bidders have cost me in the past year? Its actually to the tune of several thousand dollars. Heres how:

#1 my listing fees are non refundable. I pay about $23 to list with featured auctions. When losers bid and dont pay, I'm out the $23. Without exception.

#2 ever hear of COD? protects the buyer from getting ripped off right? right, only to rip off the shipper. some guy bids, wins, and asks me ot overnight with a COD provision. sure, why not? found out the answer to that lesson quick. no such number, no such zone, return to sender after address correction and 3 delivery attempts. Just like the Elvis song. I get my UPS bill. Do you know how much it costs to overnight 20 pounds to zone 5? $50. Add another $10 for address correction, thats $60. Then the user mysteriously dissapears and has an invalid e-mail. All because somebody gets their kicks from defrauding me.

#3 fake money orders. need i say more?

#4 stolen credit cards through paypal. they give you a story about a brother or friend in another country while they're in the USA. this "friend" has a "birthday" coming up, so they offer you tons of $ to ship to another country. the shipping address is unconfirmed cause its overseas. when the banks pull the stolen CC's they make a chargeback. since you thought you "had" the money you went ahead and spend tons fo $ FedExing stuff internationally.

i'm cramping up from typing this. want more? get back to me in an hour

All good points. I've had one bidder never pay and I've only had about 10 auctions. eBay needs to verify new bidder accounts. If they want to make it optional then sellers should have the option to automatically filter out unverified bidders.

Unfortunately they have a near-monoploy on auctions and use the power to treat sellers about as well as MS does: we know best, do it our way, like it or lump it.

Why don't people wait 7 days for paypal to clear? During that time it would be safe to know whether the credit card has been stolen or not. I would feel much comfortable to do this if I were to sell something especially with people that have negative feedback. On the other hand it's very easy right now to fake the number of positive comments one can have.
