EBay to pay $1.5 billion for PayPal

good for me. means I dont have to worry about my money sitting in there, at least in the short term. I am worried about customer service but I dont know how that could get worse. I also wonder if ebay will outlaw paypal for online gambling.

I dont think ebay is going out of business any time soon, so it will keep us safer. And being that I use paypal for ebay more than anything, maybe a combined fee reduction or something else is coming...

Sounds like a good thing to me. Ebay isnt really evil in my eyes.

I'll make two predictions:

1) Higher rates to use the service
2) Elimination of cash back on purchases for card holders

This looks like a merger in the making. Ebay will acquire Paypal to handle all of their account billing and payment services. And yes, the perks of paypal will most likely go away. On the other hand, ebay could bring some much needed boost to the Paypal organization in terms of moral, security, revenue and therefore leading to a better service.
It's a toss up really. Just have to wait and see what the market does with it.

well ebay aint really paying $1.5 billion, they're just swapping their over-inflated stock for paypal, and teh investors are liking it, ebay slides over $4 in pre-market

nonetheless, paypal was the largest online payment service, and combined with billpoint there is no serious competition, which means rates will go up, until we are all forced to accept money orders only and fraud will climb high and ebay will die...

This is terrible. Ebay is going to ruin this company. Nickel and dime to death just like they do they damn auction site. Damn.

Compared to what? Paypal's inevitable bankruptcy, and the financial bloodbath that would follow?

Got that right..................PayPal's demise was only a question of when..............not if................😉

This is the best thing that could ever happen to PayPal. Their security flaws are well known amongst enthusiasts (like ourselves). If eBay simply ends the practice of PayPal's full access to members' checking accounts it will be a huge step forward.

1.5 billion? Maybe paypal can use some of that change to pay me back all the "pending transactions" where they've taken my hard-earned $... it's not my fault their system is so easy to fool with stolen credit cards, I'm just tryin to make a little honest living here.

I agree but I took care of that problem................I opened a seperate checking account exclusively for use with PayPal that required no minimum balance! I only deposit money in it by online transfer when needed and immeadiately withdraw any payments made to PayPal...................😉

Security flaws? Can you please point me to any reputable links detailing them? There are sites that occasionally popup trying to scam people into thinking they are paypal, but I haven't heard of a single (or multiple) security flaw within paypal.

I still feel this way. I hope Im wrong, but Im usually right. Arrghh.

Great, another thing for eBay to screw up. And there's no way I'd sell my company for stock in any other company, I'd want cash and a large, guaranteed income!
