Use proxy bidding. Place the amount you're willing to pay.

How does it work and where can I get it? I've heard that it will place a bid at the last minute on an item? Also, is it freeware?

Don't bother. It won't help. Just use the regular proxy bidding, duh. Its not like you're somehow gonna pay less if you bid at 4 seconds before an auction ends...

I snipe manually
Got my bike frame by placing a bid 10 sec before closing.
Darn, I usually snipe in the last 3 seconds or so. 10 sec's is an eternity.Originally posted by: FrustratedUser

Forget all the rest, use http://www.auctionstealer.com/. It's free to use, it will bid within the final 10 seconds of the auction. If you "sign up" it allows you to bid within the final 5 seconds. I've never lost.![]()

I hate snipers ... I believe the auto-snipers are technically against the EBay policies, too...
Yep, same here.Originally posted by: Ime
I just place a bid for the max amount I'm willing to pay. If I get outbid, oh well.

It's kind of like buying/selling stock... You pick a "breaking point" before it gets near it, and then you stick with your decision.
That's why people overpay on eBay so much... They get caught up in the bidding, and the will to win, and they lose sight of the actual worth.

Oh, I'm not saying that sniping is a bad idea at all. Not doing it cost me an auction, the other day...
Nobody was bidding on this Red Wings calendar, but I was going to be at work when the auction ended. So, I proxy bidded, and lost the auction in the final minute.

Did you set your bid to the maximum you were willing to pay?
If so, then you did not lose.
If not, you should have bid higher initially.
