Ebay slapped with $35 million in damages. I bet it closes under $100/share today.

Duh, Change it to "buy it at this particular instant in time"
Or "buy it at this moment"
Or "buy immediately"
Or "Buy 'this' now"

Simply change a word or two.
I am not a lawyer, but that is different than patent infringement. They are not being sued for using the words "Buy It Now," but rather the idea of buying it now(or whatever the idea is, I didn't really read the patent...) They could call it "wacking off" and they'd still be sued.

Ahhh.... I bet that makes the CEO (Meg) really feel bad as she's counting her $3 mil bonus from last year. 🙂

I'm one degree of separation from Meg. Actually she's pretty nice, and has great ethics as it relates to building the business. I want to think poorly of her, but alas, I can't...

Yeah that's what I've heard. My wife used to work there and her best friend still does.

Crap, hopefully anandtech doesn't get slapped with this great "Quick Reply" box patent infringment. Its a great feature.

that sucked when it went to 102, then jumped to like 103.35 this morning, well after the news was out. good luck shorts, maybe this'll finally rein them in. too bad the article about ebay's bad options habits didnt get more coverage

Woolston said he is "walking on sunshine" over of the favorable verdict. The former technology expert for the CIA has prevailed in patent violation cases with other Internet companies before, including GoTo.com, now Overture Services. He enforced his patents with online car seller AutoTrader.com, which offers auctions as part of its service. He's also in the midst of a patent dispute with Priceline.com.

Wow, a former spook now extorting websites who auction things. Nuts.

I thought from you other thread that you were/are sort ebay. Shouldn't the drop in price be good for you?

This is rediculous, there are so many different ways a "buy it now" feature can be implemented that I simply cannot see how you can patent that idea. Link to the patent Here.
Maybe I should make up some kind of generalization, patent it, and sue some companies too.

ok, if their trying to say "Buy it now" is patented, then they'll have some compitition from a used car dealer in Garland, that's been his line for 20 years.
