Ebay Situation.

Hacp

Here is the deal. Bought something from ebay but things didn't work out and we ended up canceling the transaction. I originally paid and the item shipped but usps ended up fucking up and sent the item back to the seller. Seller went all crazy about it but we worked out a partial refund through the resolution center. I ate the shipping costs.

However. 2 weeks later and it turns out that the seller shipped the item to me again. This time, I ended up getting it. Now I have money AND the item. That is not what we worked out. Officially, the transaction is closed through ebay. I want to repay the seller, but I want to be safe and not get screwed by some shady shit(IE, after he gets the money, he complains to ebay. There is no official ebay way to pay him.). What is the best way to go about this?

Few things to note. The seller has not contacted me about the item yet. I was totally surprised when it got it.

what's the harm in just paying him?

you have the item, what's the worst that could happen.

Also, feedback is important. Are you talking some doucher or a legit 5k feedback guy that's big on customer service?

Officially, the transaction is closed. I would have to pay him through paypal directly without any ebay protection. This guy has like 30 feedback, mostly buys. I am very cautious with these kinds of stuff. It is very easy to get ripped off and I am always skeptical about this shit.

I just figured out that I could do this.I'll wait until he contacts me about the item and then we'll set up something through ebay where I bid on his relisted item.

Why would the USPS end up sending it back to the seller?
Only case it does that if they didn't put enough shipping postage or problems with incorrect/undeliverable/unreadable address.
That 2 weeks later he shipped it again sounds weird, something's fishy about it. Why'd he ship it again?

I don't think you can start up a followup dispute after the first one has been resolved, I have yet to encounter that.

how can you get ripped off if you already have the item.

basically, the SELLER is shitting bricks because he's out a camera AND the money.

List some 0.01 cent item and put the shipping fee to what you want to refund to him.
That way you won't eat final value fees plus it's "warranted" under ebay protection.

Somehow he emails ebay and says he shipped me the item, provides Delivery Confirmation, then requests money from Ebay AFTER I send him the cash through paypal. Anyways, I have no intention of screwing the guy. I could just keep the money and the item and go but I'm not a jerk. I just want a safe way to do this.

The way you refund money is by going to the original paypal transaction and click "issue refund".

Refund of a refund? I sent him the money through paypal. He refunded the money to me already. I just tried to see if I can issue a refund of a refund and apparently you can't do that.

if that's the case then there is NOTHING shady that could possibly happen by you sending him money

That is not even possible.

What the..have you ever used eBay?

The seller can't refund you money and then say "After I refunded him he got the item, I want my money back."

I've read about every possible Paypal TOS page, never mentioned is a thing like that.

This is my 4th time using Ebay. I am very careful with this stuff.

If you have the item and it works, you should pay him. If you don't want the item without ebay protection, then send it back. I don't even see how this is even a hard decision.

The only way I can see you getting ripped off is if the seller claims you never paid and takes you to court to get the item back.

How much money are we talking here? He isnt going to take you to court for a $100 camera. Just send him the payment and be done with it. Clearly mark on the payment what it is for, and explain the details in the notes of the transaction.

Or send him a money order and keep the receipt.

500. Not a TON of money but still a sizable amount.

Money order sent via USPS certified mail, return receipt.

Then you have a) proof of money sent and b) proof of signed delivery to seller.

EDIT: You could also use a cashier's check as well if your bank does not charge you for them.

I bet somebody else bought his camera from ebay and he accidentally ended up shipping it to you again. If that's the case, he will have enough headaches from the new buyer so you should contact him via email to see if he wants the camera back or the $$ for it.
