Interesting development. I TRY to keep my shipping competitive. The most I normally charge is around $50...and that's for big ass 50 pound printers and such. If I ship to CA, I make little off shipping. But if I ship along the east coast...BOOYAH :D

Could easily solved this problem a long time ago by including the shipping cost into the eBay cut.

From FW:

Well stated. Plus Bill Cobb already announced at eBay Live that excessive S&H disputes will become part of the eBay buyer dispute and/or PayPal buyer dispute process later this year. That alone should be fun for all sellers even the honest ones.

Uh oh :D

You like to pay high shipping?

If it means a lower overall cost, why not?

$0.01 + $45 shipping is still cheaper than $30 + $20 shipping.

What's so hard to understand? eBay is going this b/c they're losing revenue when a seller sells something for $0.01 instead of $30 b/c they only count commision on the sale amount. For the buyer, all that matter is the total cost of final bid price + shipping.

All the items I sell are shipped in custom hand-painted cardboard boxes worth at least $20.00 each.

What a joke. eBay is only motivated when they are losing out on profits. Why regulate what the sellers can do if they don't even regulate feedback that is not warranted. Too many negative reviews tarnish legitament sellers' feedback rating and cannot be erased unless both parties agree. It doesn't matter if the buyer paid or not which is complete B.S.
Their customer support is also a complete joke and full of idiots who cannot even read.

If anything eBay should be directing resources to prevent sellers and buyers from scaming innocent people. I find it funny how thousands of "fake" accounts are just roaming eBay sending out PMs and other crap. And then there are those people who create an account to bid on someone else's listing and not pay for it (probably due to retaliation from a bad transaction of the seller was fishy).

Exactly.

I hope people don't expect that the items that are currently selling for $.01 + $14.99 shipping will not tomorrow sell at the same price and ship for $1.20.

In fact, because they are no longer able to get around fees, you can expect that the total price of the item will now be more than $15.

Intuitively, I'd think the opposite...

I'd personally just like to see one combined price: item + shipping + any tax. No math needed, no scaming through these hidden fees, etc. The only allowed extra cost would be for international orders which is of course more expensive. The seller pays for shipping out of his/her revenue from the auction.

That would be wondrous. Or, it should let you input your zip code or international country code and it can calculate and sort based on that. Oh, and it'll do taxes too.

The one thing I'm afraid of is that eBay will want receipts for packaging to prove I paid what I paid.

When I sell, I weigh the item, and set the auction so bidders can use the calculator. I usually add a buck or two just for the bubblewrap and crap I had to either buy or chase down. I recycle boxes whenever possible so there's no cost there.

But now am I gonna get zinged cuz I charged a buck for packaging?

And any alternative you get will have much the same...

Sorry but Ebay isn't nearly that bad, sure there are bad sellers but that can be said about anywhere.

How? If the bidders determine the price, the seller can't control it unless it's a high starting price or BiN.

I have noticed lately that shipping charges have went up across the board.

Its really crazy...I dont mind the seller making a bit of profit on S and H but come on.

Was never THIS bad in the past.

Something like that would probably allowed to be counted as the Handling Fee:

Handling Fee: Actual packaging materials costs may be charged. A handling fee in addition to actual shipping cost may be charged if it is not excessive.

Then again, who's to determine what is excessive or not?
