Ebay shipping charges Update

I understand that sellers upset about ebay and paypal charges.

I wanted to buy scales cost is $20 and shipping via fedex ground $25

shipping weight of scales is 3.5 KG Standard fedex ground rate is $6.26, with my account $6.06

Seller told me if I wanna use my account I have to pay $5 handling charge to cover his paypal, ebay, auctionwatch
Why buyers should even pay for auctionwatch its optional

It's up to you to read the fine print of any ebay auction -- a seller can set as high of a "shipping and handling" charge as they want as long as it is disclosed in the listing. You also need to read carefully in case the auction title and/or picture are msileading (intentionally or not).

Actually high shipping fees are a way around ebay's reserve and opening bid/closing bid fees.....if you can prove the fees are not customary ebay will can the auction.

Also if you have an email stating they want paypal fees paid for, paypal will handle that with the seller, it's against their terms of service.

what if the seller says something like this :

if you pay w/paypal, don't use a credit card or it'll be denied

is that okay ?

Ebay shipping charges have gotten out of hand, which is why I dont use ebay anymore.

But the AOLers of the world will still bid $60 on a $55 retail item, and then pay $20 shipping and "handling".

yep. he doesn't want to pay the 2.9% fee for CC funds. You can charge for paypal, but you have to use your head. You don't charge extra for paypal, you give discounts for paying by check/MO, etc 😛

So dude agreed to shipped using my fedex account. so to piss me off he send it via fedex 2nd air insured when entire products costed $20 plus 5 handling fee for ebay, paypal and auctionwatch

I always specify non-cc paypal because I have a personal account.

You can state no CC with your 'personal' account. I believe you cannot block payments with an upgraded account.

Re: FedEx....that's the risk with it. We had an international shipment cost us over $1000 because we did this....what you have to do is arrange a pickup to be safe....but even then the potential exists for errors and big $$$$......

I don't think you have any recourse with that...but the price of the goods has nothing to do with shipping....we regularly pay 10x in shipping for parts we have to have NOW.

good luck

It is entirely up to the seller what they charge for shipping. If you don't agree with their policy or intention then either send them an email before bidding to try and resolve the issue(s) or don't bid at all. Bidding and them discussing the shipping with them is never a good idea.

I saw this one auction for an item that was selling on ebay for $125 (with shipping). The seller had a buy it now of $25 with a shipping charge of $100. The shipping charge was clearly outlined in the auction and was non-negotiable. I am sure somebody bought it now thinking they were getting a great deal only to realize they were dealt. 🙂

Well, from my experience, it costs money for bubble wrap, tape, boxes, peanuts, etc. Why should I as the seller eat those costs? I charge reasonable shipping charges that will cover my costs. I clearly list the shipping fee in my auction, and if the seller doesn't like it, they can certainly bid on another auction.....

yes that's fine.

I agree with charging for packing supplies, if they are new and paid for....I paid for something $30 to be professionally packed, it came in an appliance box with a mixture of reused blown-in foam and styrofoam...the box was single ply and crappy, the foam was dirty. That's just extra profit to me.

Now order from my company and get a brand new box (sometimes double boxed) with new and clean styrofoam, shrinkwrap, labeling, etc.....really professional. We actually lose a little bit on what we charge because we try to split those costs with the buyer.

It's cool when you get a nicely packaged item that arrives blemish free....but when someone is tacking on a fee for extra profit, they should have the smack laid down.

I also will repeat, sometimes shipping is WAY more than the item cost.

What? It's against PayPal's rules to charge extra if they want to use PayPal?

WTF? Why? I can charge anything I damn want.

Exactly. I pay a lot for shipping supplies, and I'm not gonna eat the costs. If I sell something and send it media mail, I will generally add a buck to the shipping price...
