Ebay seller charge?

Hacp

Lifer
So I try to buy an Item on ebay and I see a charge tacked on at the end. I did not see this charge before. WTF?

Does anyone know where I could have caught this charge? I searched and Could not find where it said anything about a charge.

shipping price is pretty clear on ebay listings. unless if the seller tried to increase the shipping charge to you at the end- i think it's possible to do that.

If some asshole from overseas bids on my product and wins, even if i say no shipping outside of the USA, i'm gonna charge his ass at least $50 more.

but yeah, ebay is a clusterfuck

It says free shipping to the US and I'm in the US. I have no idea why I'm getting charged 15 dollars extra. 😱

i think the seller can send you an invoice after the auction ends, where he can adjust the amount of shipping you have to pay. You should talk to the seller about this. it could be an honest mistake

It all boils down to this, ebay sucks.

what else am i gonna use to sell all this old shit in my basement? Craigslist is good, but there are some things where a national audience will do much better for.

Wow are you serious? And ebay won't let me get out of it if the seller decides to charge 1000 extra? I've been trying to contact ebay but no luck.

I believe you can prevent people from outside the US from buying. I think it's a setting.

Inform Ebay there is a unwanted charge to the auction and have them look into it.

Got a link so we can check it out?

No, not going to provide a link. However, here is what the "invoice" gave me. Notice the insurance part. I have no idea why I need to pay for insurance. I am already insured by Ebay. Seller needs to pay for the fucking insurance.

No optional buyer charges for insurance

Why is eBay removing optional or required shipping insurance when I list or re-list my item?
By removing optional or required shipping insurance, we are adjusting to help meet buyer expectations for ecommerce and aligning with industry standard practices. In most circumstances, buyers do not expect to pay for the cost of shipping insurance. This change also reflects the industry—and eBay—standard practice that sellers are responsible for their items until they are safely in their customers' hands.

Well, definitely don't pay a cent until you contact the seller and let him know about this.

Whether or not he should be the one providing insurance is another topic, but you definitely should not be forced into paying insurance if you do not wish to do so.

Resolved. I put the seller back into place. 15 dollar insurance my ass. Knocked the price back down to 490.

Not to rain on your parade, but does the wording in the sellers text sound a little bit nigerian/scammerish to anyone else?

"Free shipping does Not includes insurance. Please add additional $15.00 to the total cost for insurance for the package. Item will be ship out 24 hours after the payment clear through Paypal. Thank you"

Depending on what you are buying, insurance is strongly recommended. And it is up to the buyer to decide to purchase it and the buyer's cost. You don't want to buy something fragile, like a CD player and not insure it. UPS or USPS / Fedex drops it, no outside damage, unit does not work. Seller says it was fine when it left. Now big argument over who is right and getting a refund or replacement. Insurance protects both the Buyer and the Seller against damage in transit.

To paraphrase your empathy shown in so many other threads. Tough shit.

Hm. Depending on the declared value of the item, some couriers will charge you extra for shipping.

It's always been up to me to pay for Shipping Insurance on ebay items, even if the shipping itself was free....I'd think you would want it on something that expensive.

Yeah, you really showed him. Who cares if the item arrives smashed, broken, whatever. You don't need insurance. And since you put the seller back into place, he's got documentation that you adamantly refused to insure the item against shipping damage, therefore putting the responsibility for any damage it may suffer on your shoulders.

Yeah, you so smart!

OP rant = FAIL!

If it arrives broken, guess what? Its the sellers fault. This isn't FS/FT. This is ebay. They have rules clearly stating that it is the sellers responsibility to get the item to the buyer in one piece. Try again.

What if a buyer specifically requests insurance?
You can remind your buyer that insurance is designed to protect the seller, not the buyer— if a buyer does not receive an item, it is the seller's responsibility. If a buyer continues to request shipping insurance, you can select a shipping service that includes insurance (for example, UPS covers insurance up to $100 automatically with many services), or add the cost of insurance into your shipping or handling costs and send the buyer a revised invoice.

NO, ebay's rules clearly state that it is the seller's responsibility. If the item arrives here broken, I am protected by Ebay. The seller needs to fork back my cash. Thats how ebay works.
