ebay scam?

saw this on ebay, and thought it was too good to be true (been looking for a 600cc bike for some time now). So, after getting an email (below) in response, it seems kinda sketchy, any thoughts?

(read the whole email, its way too complex for cliffs)

Hello,

This is Alexandra Rodriguez, Emiliano's sister. He is currently in Spain
with some businesses and he asked me to take care of the sale until he gets
back. He is the first owner of this beautiful 2005 Honda CBR600RR. He has
clear title for it in his name.

There is also a Transferable Warranty from the manufacturer till Feb/2006.
Warranty papers and title are in my possession. If we'll have a deal, I will
send them to you by overnight mail service when my brother gets back and
signs off on it. In case if you need a loan, I can send you a copy by fax.

He bought the bike new few months ago. It was a leftover and he got a very
good deal at the dealership, so this justifies the $ 2,750 selling price. It
is in excellent condition and he never had any kind of problems with it. The
engine and the electronics are in perfect working condition.
It will come also with manuals, accessories, helmet, jacket and cover; all
brand new. So, package is in showroom condition; no need to worry about it.

We recently moved to Hawaii, my brother rent a house here and we are kind of
short with the money right now. Because we have left Texas, was easier for
my brother to leave it in the custody of a shipping company from Tucson,
Arizona. Full insured shipping, inside US and Canada, has already been paid
by him. So, you won't have to pay any additional shipping taxes when it
arrives in your town. For verification purposes here is the shipping company
"US Auto Transports, Inc." - http://www.us-autotransports.com/ and tracking
number 471930.

I am in Hawaii right now and unfortunately I do not have a cell or home
phone here yet. But anyway, I do not know many technical details about this
bike to tell you and I hope the description from eBay was detailed enough.
More specifications could be found on producer website.

My bro will be back in the states in one week, and until then my job is to
find a serious buyer for the bike, because we have had some troubles in the
past with bidders who didn't paid for their items.

If you are interested in buying I will kindly ask you to send a refundable
transfer of $2,750 to my Square Trade account, a trusted eBay escrow
company. They will hold the money until you get and inspect the bike and
give your approval that it is like stated. Due to the fact that we are in
the process of moving, all our bank accounts have to move too; we are also
having problems with our Pay Pal account so this seems the best opportunity
for the moment.

So, once again, in case you are interested in a deal, the first thing to do
is to send me your name and address. Based on that, I will file a case with
Square Trade about our deal and they will contact you right after with
instructions on how to make the payment. I apologize if this is an
inconvenience for you but we have been screwed in the past, and since my
brother is not here, I got to make sure I am conducting a business with a
serious buyer.

Thank you very much for your interest and I look forward to your response
about our terms.

Best regards,
Alexandra & Emiliano Rodriguez

Hey, In your auction, it says free shipping for US and canada. I just
wanted to check to be sure, as I am complating your offer of $2750. Hope to
hear from you soon, thanks alot.

Without reading: It's a scam.

Edit: A quick search yield a list price of almost $9000. Someone legitamately desperate would knock maybe $1000 off its current value, which would have to be in the 7-8000 range.

by the way, it looks like a possibly hijacked ebay account too - "DO NOT CONTACT ME THROUGH EBAY'S ASK SELLER A QUESTION, AS YOUR EMAIL WILL NOT BE RECIEVED."

When i wanted to change my ebay email, i had to send an email to ebay with proof it was mine, i expect he has not done this, so it still is connected to the real owners email address.

Fvcking pisses me off, a-hole ebayers...

on that note, anyone have a 600cc bike they want to sell/give to an extremely enthusiastic buyer who is hard up for cash???

rofl scam , hijacked account, 6k discount on the bike? riiiight.....square trade? right....
email her and tell her shipping is not necessary, you will go pick up the bike FROM the shipper. i bet you will get no response.

Yeah, this means that what she will do is send you another scam e-mail claiming to be square trade and that square trade wants you to send a Western Union money transfer to them. HAR.

I tend to agree with it probably being a scam...

To top off what the others have said there are 2 listing violations with it as well.
1) Contact info wrong or the account was hijacked
2) "Email offers to" - can't do that. They're trying to circumvent ebay fees...

I like the already at shipper part though. It prevents you from being able to pick it up. As does the "in Hawaii" part.

And speaking of scams regarding ebay, when will the avalance of these bogus phishing e-mails stop?

Hello,

Thank you for writing to eBay regarding the email you received.

Emails such as this, commonly referred to as "spoof" or "phished"
messages, are sent in an attempt to collect sensitive personal or
financial information from the recipients.

The email you reported was not sent by eBay. We have reported this email
to the appropriate authorities.

In the future, be very cautious of any email that asks you to submit
information such as your credit card numbers or passwords. If you are
ever concerned about an email you receive from eBay, simply follow these
steps:

1. Open a new Web browser and type www.ebay.com into your browser
address field to go directly to the eBay site.

2. On eBay, sign into your account and click the "My eBay" button at the
top of the page.

3. Check the My Messages section located at the top of the My eBay page.
If an email affects your eBay account, it's now in My Messages. Any
email sent to your registered eBay email address from eBay or from
another eBay member via eBay's member-to-member communication system
will now appear in My Messages.

Just remember, if you get an email to your registered eBay email address
that looks like it's from eBay about a problem with your account or
requesting personal information, check My Messages first. If it's not
there, it's a fake email.

If you still have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay,
please forward it immediately to spoof@ebay.com. Do not respond to it or
click any of the links. Do not remove the original subject line or
change the email in any way when you forward it to us.

If you have already entered sensitive personal information, financial
information, or your password into a Web site based on a request from a
spoofed email, you should take immediate action to protect your identity
and all of your online accounts. We have developed an eBay Help page
with valuable information regarding the steps you should take to protect
yourself.

etc. etc.

Once again, thank you for alerting us to the spoof email you received.
Your efforts help keep eBay a safe and fair place to trade.
