eBay Returns: What charges incurred?

I'm selling an item on eBay, I just got an email asking if the item doesn't work...Can they return it.

My question is, what are the fees associated in relisting an item? Obviously once the auction is over, I'd have to relist the item if it didn't work for the guy.

I know PayPal allows you to refund money up to 30 days with no fees, but how do auctions (or rather re-listed auctions) work with eBay?

Thanks.

final value fee.

being that you sold it, you can't recoup your listing fees the second time.

the most you can get back is your final value fee, but you can't get back the listing fees.

You have to repay listing fees if they return it and you post it again

Be VERY CAREFUL accepting returns. It's happened more than once where someone sells an item, then the buyer complains it didn't work. So the seller accepts the return, only to find out that the buyer switched their defective item with the working item, shipping the bad one back to the seller. Of course, this is usually after any refunds have been made, so the seller is out a good item.

A lot of people will take advantage of the kindness of strangers. If the items is new, tell them they have to take up warranty issues with the manufacturer, if it's used, say it's "as-is" so you don't get screwed (provided it IS working)

For clarification, they're asking if it "doesn't work" in the manner of "If it doesn't fit properly"...I'm selling memory chips and the guy is asking if the chips are not compatible with his computer will I take the chips back.

If I understand what you're saying freesia39...The only thing I could recoup is the final value fee (the extra cash they take out from the final selling price of the item) and I'd have to pay the relisting fee? Is that an easy thing to do? Or would I have to go through a mountain of red tape for eBay to give me that money back?

You make a good point MrBond, I'm no retailer who can write off such dealings...I'll probably just tell the guy he better MAKE SURE he knows what's compatible with his computer before bidding!

Thanks for the responses.

I wouldn't go down that road if i were you. You're going to become the guy's tech support bitch. Tell him all sales are final and he needs to make sure he knows what he wants before he buys it.
