eBay removed my listing...

Has this ever happened to anyone before? My listing got removed for the following statement in the listing:

You are welcome to come and view and try out the treadmill, just get in touch and I will get back to you as soon as possible. If you make a sensible offer upon viewing it we will certainly consider it.

I'm sure it is a breach of their rules, but I mean... come on! I paid £3.50 (~$7) to list the damn thing. I can't believe they even bother looking for this type of thing, it's not like I'm selling fake Rolexs.

Anyway it's no big deal because I can just relist, but I was wondering if this is a common thing or I was just unlucky. It just seems like a bit of a pain in the ass over nothing.

I'd edit the offer portion to make it clear you will accept the offer through ebay.com's "best offer" program.

Yea, I'm sure that would get around it. But to be honest I'm just going leave out the 'infringing' statement. I think most people realise that if they come to view an item and have a wad of cash with them I'm likely to accept the offer

Not to be a jerk, but... you violated their rules. Listing fees are their way of making money. What did you expect to happen?

You got unlucky. As a brief perusal of eBay will reveal, there are TONS AND TONS of "infringing" postings out there. The most likely scenario is that some eBay vigilante who wanted to sell a similar treadmill noticed your post and reported it.

...if you don't care about eBay's TOS, I guess. Whether you think it's 'fair' or not, posting your item on eBay and then taking a cash payment offline and removing the item is essentially defrauding eBay of the percentage of the sale price they would normally get. This is what their whole business model is built on.

If you wanted to do it 'right' you could set up an auction with a 'buy it now' price, and someone who agreed to that price could come to your place, check out the item, and then log into their account and buy it from there. Or post on Craigslist or get a local want ad if you want to sell it locally.

Well, yes, I agree that I would technically be violating the TOS. But I was just being honest in the listing, and wasn't trying to plan some elaborate fraud. I find it hard to believe that anyone would refuse a good offer for an item they were selling on eBay if it was made to them. I'm happy for someone to come around and view the product, then go away and bid on it. But if they want to make an offer, then I'd consider it.

I understand the reason why my listing was removed, I'm just surprised that it was.
