I need your advice

I call up this dude as I haven't receive his payment yet....

and he told me he did NOT authorise anyone to bid anything for him in ebay

I got a email from him earlier saying he authorise his friend Mr. Mingbo Guo to bid for him
and he is NOT going to pay it due to my shipping price is too high, I ask about his authorisation email and he told me he don't recall sending one out.. ?!!!

he told me I should only charge him $4-5 for a 4lbs priority USPS shipment ?

I say WTF ?

anyway how can I hunt down those ebay monkeys.. they are using .edu address and I already has his phone / address

FYI, they are student of university of Buffalo in New York..

Isn't anyone bid on ebay enter into a legally binding contract ?

I would rather deal with FS/FT AT members than monkeys in ebay..
btw, AT members is at least higher IQ than average ebay folks...
I have more problems with my moron customer (most of them can't read TOS before bidding) than AT membrs, geez..

Sluggo has explained everything. Ebay is in the business to make money. And that does NOT involve enforcing their own policies so you dont have to pay more $ to them.

EDIT: as to the "legally binding" clause on their website and for all those raising their hands saying "SUE THE BASTARD", please feel free to visit the real world with me.

De jure: The person must fufill their obligations.
De facto: Ebay wont do a damn thing if they dont. You have to get your own lawyer, and get your ass into a full fledged legal battle. By the time its over, its not worth it.

correct me if I am wrong

ebay charge like 5-10 % (inluding insertion fee + final auction fee) for every single d@mn item I sell..
fee is high esp for low cost item..

what is their role in protecting the seller ?

all I see is it protect the customer more than a seller..

as a honest part-time seller who provide fast shipping and good customer service, I think ebay suck...

1.) Tell the high bidder he has x amount of days to pay. If he doesn't he will be reported to eBay.
2.) After he does not pay, leave negative feedback
3.) Fill out a NPB (non-paying bidder) form after 10 days - you will get your $$ back for this incident
4.) Move on, eBay won't do s*it.....they don't care, and can't do much to protect you as a seller. The feedback system sucks as well.

File a Non-paying bidder complaint. Get your money back from the fees you had to pay.

You sir, are INCORRECT. He will get final value fees credited back. Listing fees are NON-refundable, even if they cant seem to substantiate the legally binding concept of their site.

Are you serious? That's bloody ridiculous!

Here's my little eBay story. One time I had an auction that said "no local pickup" and two people asked if they could pick it up locally! How do you like them apples?

I once had $4000 in merchandise unsold because some moron(s) bidded, didnt pay me, hung me up on $46 in listing fees.

I once had someone screw me over in a dutch auction. They held up the sale of ALL the units for sale for 3 weeks, I failed to make the $1200 in sales I was supposed to, and then the manufacturer changed the minnimum advertised price, so i lost $400 and $23 in listing fees.

I once had 2 COD overnight shipments to fake addresses. That cost me $46 in listing fees and $100 in UPS bills.

Do I need to go international, or do the U.S. stories suffice for now?

No need to go international. I've got all the international pain for you right here with my next story...

A bunch of times people asked me for shipping rates to Canada DESPITE the fact that I said I only ship to the United States only. What's up with THAT?

PsychoAndy's & Associates lesson for today:

Canada is no sweat. I mean literally. I will exert more effort taping the box shut than worry about shipping the items to the great white north.

Altough intimidating at first, its not hard at all. This year was slow, but I have to say over the course of my experience I've done 10 canadian orders and another 40 or so abroad.

Just get a estimate on the box weight, insurance, etc... and add in an appropriate handling charge. To all those canadians screaming bloody murder, tough. You dont have to wait in line and fill out paperwork.

A USPS customs form is simple enough. Just make sure you get paid first on the goods and there wont be a problem. Spoken WITH experience. Someone refused a COD order to Canada cause he didnt feel like paying the taxes his government assesed.

BTW answering NO to candian shipping isnt a pain. A $50 fedex bill for returned merchandise IS.

Solution: Config paypal to REFUSE payments made via send money button. Place an option on REJECTING payments. I have had to reject many payments for that reason.

Shipping outside the US is not an issue. Post office breaks it, they pay. They lose it, they pay as well. Just make sure you get paid FIRST.

And your timeframe is correct. They take your $ immediately and take a month to give it back.
