guys need your help on this. its $900 item, my listing clearly says will not ship to unconfirmed address.
This guy payed me immediately through paypal & asking me to ship to his office address, which is an unconfirmed address.
i still havent accepted his payment. what do you think i should do?

Dunno....I never got that crap...I would xfer to the money to your bank account and wait a week to make sure they clear, the nsend the item.

accept the payment, transfer the funds from paypal immediatley and ship...wait a few days to make sure he's not gonna try to pull some bs though...but i'm an ebay n00b...so i may not be giving you the best advice...

either that or tell him you have to ship to a confirmed address, you stated that clearly in the auction

when dealing with $900 item, I wouldn't do that. for items less than $50, I wouldn't care.

reject his payment. ask him to send you from a confirmed address or a money order.

the thing about paypal is they will go to your bank account and take out the money from there. unless you are unverified, but you won't get the protection either.

That's awful advice. For one thing, he has up to 30 days to file a dispute with paypal and you'll instantly lose because you shipped to an unconfirmed address. Second, withdrawing funds accomplishes nothing because paypal can and will send you to a collection agency for that kind of money; you gave them the right to do so when signing up.

Reject the funds and relist the item.

don't reject the funds. let the guy try to remedy the issue by mailing you a money order. otherwise, tell him you're sending it to a confirmed address.

chances are, and i'd bet on it, that he cannot confirm his office address because naturally he's not going to have any bank accounts or credit cards in his office address. that said, it's still not a good idea to mail the package to him at the office. you can tell him he either will receive it at his confirmed address or not at all, unless he follows your guidelines for sending money via money order.

i do sort of understand the mentality behind wanting a package sent to one's office. sometimes people do buy items that are work-related, and other times, people live in apartments without doormen and don't want their package being stolen during regular working hours because they will not be home to accept the package. however, this guy needs to understand that you made a statement in your auction and you're not going to make exceptions for whatever reason because of the item's value.

What exactly is the difference between a confirmed and unconfirmed address in paypal? I don't remember... But if you have the funds and the guy wants it shipped somewhere, what do you care wher eyou ship it to? Just accept the funds, wait 48 hours for paypal to clear, then ship it out.

It used to be that to confirm your address, paypal would send you a letter with a code to enter in the wbesite, this proved that you were actually at that address. That's not entirely secure (since someone could steal your account, add their address, then confirm it themselves), so now it means that the address is the same one as is listed on your bank statement/credit card.

If you ship to an unconfirmed address you're asking for trouble. The guy could be legitimate, but if his "office" is in Florida and his confirmed address is in California, there's a big red flag.

Also, if you do ship to a confirmed adress, ship it via a trackable carrier (don't cheap out and use usps).

But again, if I have the funds, I've withdrawn them into my account, and everything has cleared... What do I care where the guy wants it shipped? Could have me ship it to Alaska for all I care as long as he pays the right amount of shipping fees. And I always use UPS for tracking reasons as well and would hope everyone else would as well especially if they think there's any chance of the deal going south.

no big deal on shipping to an unconfirmed addy, clear the payment, send an email to him after the payment clears then tell him its on the way...I do it all the time

Ive shipped to an office before (actually a guitar that went to guitar center as the guy worked there). I would look as his feedback, if its good with no negs, then thats a good sign. Get a phone number and call him, and call his office and verify he/she works there. 99% of companies are going to look badly on an employee scamming you. Make sure you send it UPS or FedEx with sig confirm too.

Truthfully, even if you send it to a confirmed address and they are a scumbag scammer they are going to win with paypal anyways, so if you do all the above and it feels ok then dont lose any sleep over it.

You won't be covered under paypal's seller protection program if you shipped to an unconfirmed address. I'm a powerseller and I never ship to an unconfirmed address over $50. Refund his payment and ask him to confirm his address or send a money order. If he confrims his address, be sure to insure the package and require a signature, as those are the other requirements for the the paypal seller protection.

When last I checked, the only method by which one can confirm an address is to have that address listed with one's credit card company/financial institution as the billing address (someone please correct me if this is incorrect).

For some, there can be extenuating circumstances (such as temporarily living at a non-billing address out of state).

let me tell u what happens if u send to an unconfirm address

#1. should the transaction is error free and u choose to take the risk to send to him ( hopefully not another fraud case)
then all goes well. U get your money, he/she gets the item and u both can exchange feedback normally.

#2. Should there be credit card chargeback or whatever nonsense like illegal funds.
Then you will not be eligible for "seller's protection Policy"

supposingly, paypal will fight for your case,
but mostly likely, lose the entire transaction and u need to refund. and u have to claim for Final Value Credit.

in a case like me, I only had my chargeback after one billing cycle for the credit card.
Hence, the item was already sent.
that way u lose the money and the item. paypal reverse the charge without your consent.

what a way to lose over 560 USD

While it might not be as good some would like, it is better than most. Maybe some escrow services might be better, but most have loophole where a seller/buyer could get burn.

yes, the alternative is to let him send a money order. at least that would be money in hand before u send it out.

I have shipped to many unconfirmed address while selling on ebay.
Yes it is a risk, but within United States, it is easier to settle it with IFCC (Internet Fraud Complain Center)

dealing international is a real pain and exposing to all kinds of risk.
