Ebay problems...advice appreciated

In my experience the only people who got burned by PP were the one's who did not follow the rules and/or ouright lied.

I'm quite certain you could easily find hundreds - if not thousands - of people that would beg to differ. I know folks that followed the rules to a tee and got burned. Do some googling if you'd like, I hardly think my viewpoint is unique.

That's the problem, there really isn't a viable alternative at the moment, save for Craigslist, which has it's own issues. 🙁

conclusion: ebay is the best option out there for these types of transactions, but you need to CYA, and even then you still may get burned

Get a full refund.
I've ordered 3 sets of irons from ebay and all 3 sets came direct from the manufacturer (2 Mizuno and 1 Taylor Made). They were new sets and I made sure I bought from a seller with great feedback.
(Paid $500+ for each set of Mizno's and $300 for the Taylor Made's).

well, In MY experience, the one who lied was the buyer, and despite getting my microphone back, I was out fees and shipping charges to Florida.
So, your experience doesn't hold as much water as you might think.
Paypal also debited my bank account into the negative and created problems there that took two months to resolve.

eBay is haven to frauds and cheats and PayPal sucks.

Any business that obscures it's phone numbers and contact information in an effort to avoid dealing with customer complaints can't be all good.

Yep, that's pretty much the gist of it. I personally avoid both PP and ebay for this reason, unless I'm the buyer and the amount is so small as to not be a problem if I do end up with "issues".

The seller had good feedback. His numbers were high enough to receive the $2,000 guarantee from paypal. I honestly do not think he did it on purpose. I think he just assumed they were all standard length, loft, and lie. I bought them used for a reason. I didn't want to spend $500+ for a set of irons I wanted some quality used clubs I could use for a season or two to get back to playing regularly then I was going to get custom fit and buy all brand new stuff.

$380 is not a bad deal for good clubs I agree, but when you add in the $40 shipping charge (yes I know thats more than it costs, and was fully aware and added that to the cost of the clubs) thats $420 for a set of obviously used irons. I could have got a set similar for $450 from my local shop, but wasn't wanting to spend that much money on used clubs.

best option you have is to try to get a full refund. anything else is going to look like you are just trying to get a better deal.

Actually I gave him the option to pay the local golf store or i can even take them to the large retail chain Golf Galaxy. That way he gets conformation the clubs are in fact not standard and exactly what the cost is, and he can pay them not me.

I didn't on the paypal claim but before I made the claim I msged the seller through ebay and told him I wanted either a refund or him to "fix" the clubs. He said he would do neither so I made a claim.

no paypal and ebay will provide you basically no recourse. I've been in your shoes. It was more hassle and maddening to try to get the funds back. I'd just eat the lose and consider it a lesson learned. I've learned a long time ago not to buy anything over $100 on ebay unless I'm going to pick it up and see it.

Yeah after doing some searching here and on other forums it seems to be the general rule. Even if I get no help from ebay and paypal, atleast I didn't get totally screwed, and get stuck with no item or a fake item.

edit- the funny thing (and it pisses me off too) the seller told me to just resell them on ebay. I told him I can't be as dishonest as you and lie about the specs of the clubs. Once I tell people the screwed up specs on these clubs you know how many bids I'll get.....0. He stopped responding to me after that comment. It was probably a little rude, but man it pissed me off to hear him basically say that I should just pass the problem on to someone else.


Edit- here is a picture I took with the clubs all lined up against the wall. Picture All the clubs should be 0.5 inches shorter from right to left with the last club being only 0.25 inches shorter. The first club (3 Iron) is the same length as the 4 iron. Pretty obvious to me that length is not standard on all the clubs.

Personally I think he didn't know. Unless he is in the golf business he might not have known (maybe he was the 2nd owner) the specs. Give him an honest feedback. Neutral or Neg and say the specs were not accurate to what he represented. But be prepared for retailition feedback or update

The clubs are in good condition, but the measurements are not standard like the seller claimed. The claims were not in the auction but through the ebay msg system and I have them all saved. The cost to have the clubs returned to standard dimensions costs almost 1/4th the purchase price of the clubs.
