1 negative wont matter... something similiar happened to me.. and i left a neutral feedback for the seller and they retaliated and left a negative feedback saying basically to beware of me and im a scammer.. its the only negative i have to this day and its never effected any of my other purchases.

That's right. I still have 100% with over 200 transactions, but it's just a matter of time before someone decides they are unhappy with something. I think (hope?) most buyers/sellers are smart enough to look at the percentage - 99.9 is the same as 100 when you have done a lot with eBay.

I figure people have reasons for not accepting Paypal, I avoid those people.

That way he doesn't have to worry about unhappy buyers being reimbursed.

negative feedback for a buyer account is pretty harmless except for the ego thing. Really, it doesn't matter because you are still free to bid/bin and buy things. I personally wouldn't give in ... take that feedback as a badge of honor and reply to them as honestly as you want.
It looks like you decoupled this account from your selling account which is good. If you haven't decoupled your account and plan to start selling things in the future, I would advise you start a new seller account to prevent retalitory feedback from affecting your sales.
Good luck.

This is the first I've heard of decoupling at eBay. I have sold some items (less than 10, I believe), but AFAIK it's using the same account. What makes you think I've "decoupled?" Seems like a good idea if I can do it. I really am not worried about his negative feedback as far as it affects my buying, but I plan to sell some things in the near future and would prefer that people don't see those nasty feedbacks from that guy. However, if that sticks (if I can't get eBay to erase that stuff), I figure that when I sell items I can add a short paragraph saying I've never had anything but positive feedback from all eBay buyers or sellers except for one seller who dumped on me 8 times after I gave him the feedback he deserved.

I wonder one thing right now: He left me 8 negative feedbacks, all with the same comment. I get the impression that the way eBay feedback works is that they only count negative feedback from one user once, even if it's several different feedbacks. IOW, his 8 negatives only count against me once, right? I say this because I see that my previous feedback rating of 100% now stands at 98.5%.

Reading eBay's feedback retraction/removal policies I see that they are apparently not willing to remove feedback just because it's retaliatory and baseless. They will only do so under court order:

"eBay is provided with a valid court order finding that the disputed feedback is slanderous, libelous, defamatory or otherwise illegal."

That's unbelievable! It's just a free for all. That guy has slung dirt at me and there appears to be nothing I can do. Well, I'll file a grievance, but it looks like nothing will come of it. My only remedy is to comply with this guy's attempt to blackmail me by agreeing to a mutual retraction. That will leave his untrue and ugly comments, but wipe away the dent in my 100%. It doesn't seem like the honorable thing to do.

The seller made responses to my feedback. Can I make responses to the feedback he left for me?

Edit: Looks like I can. I guess I will carefully compose rebuttals to his feedback and that will probably be the end of it except for a probable remark or two when I post items for sale.

Edit2: Here's one within the 80 character limit:
His feedback: Sellers Beware! Poor communicator-False Accusations-Attacks feedback-Stay clear!

My response: Left seller feedback he deserved. He tries to coerce me to mutually withdraw. (77 characters)

Will most people comprehend that?

Couldn't you respond to each of his 8? Use all 8 to write 8 sentences! 😉

If someone puts NEW in the title and description of the auction, I would expect a new item, nothing less. Also he needs to learn what mint when talking about the condition of an item. Mint = as if it is new, such as it was just minted.

You guys hit the nail right on the head. I got that idea last night and started composing 8 80 character sentences that will hopefully make it all clear. His feedbacks (all 8 are the same) are right next to each other. I can write 8 different responses that will tell a story, touch on the issues. Thanks, folks!!

That's what I've always thought.
