To answer your conundrum OP-

He's in the right. He said he screwed up and has offered you a refund...you need to decide on whether to keep it or send it back for said refund....there's no agreement where you're allowed to keep it for the next few weeks before deciding whether it's going to work or not.

(Unless of course he has a 30-day return policy or something like that).

...nm, irrelevant... sounds like the OP figured out he should keep the RAM and move on with life.

OK, everybody sided with the other guy. That took me by surprise. I really thought I was right. I left him this positive feedback: Item in XLNT condition, works fine. Sent quickly. Fair seller, communicative.

I posted him this email:

OK, I appreciate that you are trying to be fair.

I'll keep the item and have just left you very positive feedback. Please do the same for me.

The RAM seems to be fine. My only concern was that it might not work nicely with my other RAM. If that's the case, I will buy new RAM and sell both sticks of my current RAM. Thank you.

Thanks all for the impartial view. I was miffed that he'd put me in this position and thought he should extend me the courtesy of having an extended period to evaluate the item. It was his mistake. His refund period was one week. I figured under the circumstances he should give me a couple of weeks or a month. You guys don't agree. It's done.

I say you keep the ram, it seems to be running good so far. one crash in a week, hell I sneeze at my pc and the damn thing locks up.

Yeah, I realize it could have been caused by something other than a RAM incompatibility. I've had some crashes when running the HDTV card software with just my original stick. Usually godawful lockups, not BSOD's, though. Anyway, my box has been kinda flaky for a month or two. I'm on the cusp of an OS reinstall.

You need to either return it and get a refund or leave him positive feedback right now. He shouldn't be held responsible if the stick goes bad (even if it happens tomorrow) as long he delivered a working (albeit incorrect) product and offered to refund your money.

What he said....

Yeah, there must be something wrong with me. I just didn't appreciate this perspective, that the seller deserved to have the matter resolved quickly. Well, he posts me back:

I really appreciate that and even if something should go wrong in the
coming weeks just notify me I promise I will not leave you hanging. I will
do what is right, equitable and fair. I wont even be concerned if the scale
is tipped a bit in your favor. My only concern was leaving this transaction
open for so long.

I figure odds are easily 100 to 1 that I won't be asking him for help with this. I don't even know why he's offering it. I just told him I'm cool with calling it a done deal. I guess I have a lot to learn. 😕

So what's your point? 😕

try reading his last comment before being a douchebag, if thats possible.

I posted what I did, then read his edit which wasn?t visible before, I then subsequently edited my post.

So what?s your problem fool?

either way, its quite obvious that he didn't finish his post. there was no need to act like a douchebag to him. for editing your post though.

Was it really?

I didn?t realise you Americans were that thin skinned, because surely what I said couldn?t have been deemed offensive, could it now?

well lets see. he posts that he has a problem with an ebay auction. what he posts doesn't mention the problem. therefore, its safe to assume that he didn't get to finish posting what he wanted to say.

of course, this IS ATOT and logic tends to fly out the window more so than not, so i guess i really shouldn't be surprised.

it doesn't have anything to do with being thin skinned or not. its common courtesy and respect.

as to the OP: I agree, either decide to keep it or send it back immediately.

You make me laugh with your ?common courtesy and respect? waffle. Try rereading your original reply to me, and so fourth practice what you preach

I also saw (for some unknown reason) the OP from a different perspective (forgetting this was OT and not a tech forum).

Also, you need to come down off of that little pedestal and stop looking down on OT as if you?re a prime example of a perfect poster. It?s embarrassing to read.

lmao

He did put you in a crappy situation by not putting the proper part number. However it seems to be an honest mistake. I think you did the right thing in this case even though it isn't the ideal situation. Glad to see 2 people could resolve a situation properly.

Two people + OT 😛

Cheers to Muse for actually having an open mind.
