"Ebay" phishing FTL - almost got pwned

Got an email from "ebay" at my university email account, except that isn't my ebay email. proceeded to login anyway.. 1/2 second later, i realized wtf i had just done. luckily, whoever stole my info (which i have changed) only placed 1 auction with a fee of $3.25. hopefully ebay can refund me, though i won't lose any sleep over it if i don't. ID theft >>>>> losing 3.25.

here's hoping to everything is fixed now, i'm glad i didn't see 10000 BINs w/ me winning the auction

still...moving too quickly (was surfing bunch of pages at the same time) ftl 🙁 🙁
 
ANYTIME you get mail from E-Bay or Paypal, (or for that matter from your bank) forward the e-mail to their fraud departments. IF it is a real e-mail from them, they will notify you, but probably 99% of the e-bay mails are phishing scams...
 
I get so many Paypal Scam emails in one of my inboxes everyday its not even funny. And, the scary thing is I could see a lot of people I know falling for them. :|

You can always notify them usually at spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com when you suspect a fraud attempt. I received one today from PayPal that went to paypal.com but I was concerned since they wanted my bank account routing numbers and account number claiming it would speed up their verification process. So I went to paypal.com without using the provided link and sure enough they are asking for that information. I didn't bother to e-mail them, but one thing I know for certain - They don't need my GD bank account routing # or account # for that matter! I don't have to buy anything using PayPal or buy anything off of EBay for that matter.
 
That's one reason you should learn to never click on any e-mail links, period. If there's an e-mail coming from whatever, eBay, PayPal, bank, etc. just type in their URL yourself. Then you can always safely check out the validity of any e-mail without comprimising your account info.

Depending on what you had linked to the Ebay account such as credit card #s, etc, you might want to double check those accounts for fraudulent charges.

that's a good idea... links are just so convenient though, hehe
 
There are many out there who believe it is morally wrong to let suckers keep their money. Whoever falls for it falls for it. All I we can do is try our best to not fall for it.

obviously if it asks for my SSN, credit card #, bank account #, etc. im not going to by any means... this was more like a standard ebay advertisement which i didn't think about
 
If you ever want to have fun with the phishers, you can give them fake info, like:

Harry Scrote
255 Balls Rd
Mazoola, MT 90210
SSN: 123-45-6789
CCN: 1234432112344321 (which actually conforms to the Luhn algorithm if they have any kind of checking system in place)

Make up anything else you would like to go along with it.
