If you call in an order for $20,000 in RAM, I order it on a net 30, you pay me and I ship it, and the plane crashes. Where does the line get drawn?

That is WAY outside the scope of eBay my friend...

ID verifiying should be REQUIRED for both the sellers and the BUYERS, this doesnt force payment like your solution. But at least you can be sure that he/she is a legitimate bidder and not someone trying to attempt fraud.

Whitman has spouted off about making seller verification mandatory. My beef is, it should be unilateral.

Also, if anything. Sellers should have a D&B number as well.

Been there, done that but not that far. However, I have had many interesting purchase orders.

The problem is, the majority of stuff sold on eBay is from people cleaning out their closets. There is a limit to what you can expect of such people before it becomes too much hassle.

This is true. However, I'm just saying. If youre gonna mandate ID verification, dont intstitutionally discriminate and give it a wide scope.

Maybe D&B is streching it, but it should be a requirement for the larger volume sellers. Conversely, some ID verfication should be in order for buyers.

I would much rather pay the $150 to D&B and get universally recognized business recognition and security rather than $5 and have a hit or miss proprietary system unique to ebay.
