Ebay payment method Question

OK, I sold an item on ebay for a fairly large sum ($365). The buyer is in Brazil, but I will be shipping to an address in the US. He wants to pay me via a bank transfer into my account - he called it a DOC. He says a friend in The US will wire the money from a US account. He also says that he needs my bank name and routing number.

That being said, this sounds somewhat fishy to me. Is anyone familiar with this kind of transaction?

It does sound fishy...

But there isn't anything he can do with just the routing number and bank name. Is he also asking for your account number too?

Ask him why he can't just send you an international money order.

If you don't like it, feel free to contact the 2nd highest bidder.
 
It's a direct bank wire. Check your bank first to see if they charge a fee. Most charge like a $10-20 flat fee. I would tack that fee on to the buyer for using this method.
 
Yes, he does want my account number as well.

The problem is I will be leaving in a couple days for two weeks. I only ship to the US, so I never expected this kind of problem.

Also, there is no second bidder, it was a "buy it now" only.

Bank wires take a few business days to complete -- it's not as fast as ACH, so it's unlikely you will see the funds deposited untill well after you leave.
 
I'd tell him to find another way to pay. Even if you have to wait a little longer, it's too risky to give him your bank account info.

I just did.

This has turned into a giant PITA. I wanted that money for my trip. I do auctions ALL the time. Always, just BIN, and I am always paid within 12 hours. I guess I will have to start using the "immediate payment required" option. I really hate that when I am buying - even tho I pay right away usually.

Good luck to you.... this could get nasty. I'd call your bank and say its possible your account info was compromised.

I think if you read that properly it says he told him to get bent on the account info method.
 
Actually a wire transfer is one of the safeset methods. If an unauthorized charge comes through just call your bank. It's so easy to get those taken off. That and there's no risk of chargeback.

just for clarity...yes, I am just gonna wait for a MO. Sucks, but he's in Brazil, I would have no recourse....
 
I believe this is a scam and if you did go through with it....um..good luck?

I've heard of the scam where someone from outside of US buy somsething from you and then requires that you ship your item to a different address in the US and some form of "wire" transfer will occur. Big scamaroo
 
on a side note, I just received an email asking for my my routing and account numbers to help move $50,000,000.00 from some small country to the good ol' USA. The best part is, in exchange for my help, they are going to give me 30% of the total sum. </end sarcasm>

The way I figure it, if these guys can drain my bank account with those 2 numbers, then so can the bidder guy. Also, I can't believe there are people still falling for that email scam.
