Won a carburetor on ebay, it was listed as an Edelbrock model 1406 carb. When I got it in, it was a model 1404 carb, not a 1406. I wrote the seller thinking it was probably just a misunderstanding and all would be fixed, wrong, wrong, wrong! He emailed me back saying that I should have emailed him and asked questions about the carb before I bid on it, at which time he presumedly would have told my it was a model 1404, or atleast it sounded like he knew it was not the model he had listed. He then asked if I wanted to keep it and re-ebay it or have him do a refund, of coarse I chose a refund, thinking this can still be worked out. I also say I will ship the carb back to him as soon as I receive the refund, but he says that he will not give me a refund until he receives the carb. Then he says that he will just refund me the actuall cost of the carburetor, $127, and not the shipping either way, which puts me out of almost a full $30 in shipping cost!! :| :| :| :| I just emailed him back saying that this was not my fault and I should not be responsible for the shipping cost, as it was HE who misrepresented the carb. I also told him in a previous email that descriptions can be added too, or he could have atleast emailed any bidders letting them know it was not the 1406 model, or he could have cancled the auction and relisted it correctly!

Bout ready to blow a bolt over this one!
Sorry, but I just had to vent.

My 1975 Monte Carlo, with a 350 that only produced 145Hp from the factory. I now have a pile of edelbrock parts that are going on it shortly: Intake manifold, camshaft/lifters, valve springs, timing gears, and hopefully an edelbrock carb, model 1406. Also have a complete felpro gasket set. All the edelbrock stuff is of the performer line.

clear case of fraud on his part. He should be a man and eat the shipping. Did you use a credit card?

Fun fun. good luck with that. Sounds like once you get this straightened out you're on your way to a fun car.

Super glue does sound like fun, hehe....

It was paid for via a money order, so no cc coverage.

The guy just emailed me back saying he didn't want any hard feelings and that if I shipped it back to him he would send a full refund including shipping both ways. Now, do I really want to trust this guy not too screw me out of a carb and my money?

Make sure to save all e-mails. I'm sure he checked all the options and realized that he will have to pay back every penny if he wants to continue selling on ebay.

Hmm, already told him earlier that I was planning on shipping it back via usps priority, same method he it shipped to me with. I think I will get a signature confirmation through usps though, just so I know he receives it.

50% of people on Ebay really are morons. That's why I love selling on there. The worst is when people email you and ask if anything else is included with the product in the auction. Like what, a 1lb gold bar? I just reply, "nope"!

One a carburetor on ebay...

Hehe, didn't even notice that, heck I didn't even read what I wrote. That was posted right after I got off work at Taco Bell, where we had just had the computer network fail and lock up all the computers so orders were being taken by a pen and paper, not fun on a busy night.

Anyone wondering why I am buying a carb off of ebay, well it comes to about a $100 less, if not more then what a new one of the same model would cost.

Let me add my gripe to this thread.

I've dealth with 2 sellers in as many weeks, both of them apparently learned English as a second language (named Wu and Li). Even with several emails back and forth, I still have never made myself clear to them.

Arrrghhhhh !!

I had kind of the same situation a while back. I bought a Geforce2 Ultra video card from a guy on ebay. He sent it to me, was supposed to have box and papers.... Well it came without and with drivers burnt on a cd. Then when I installed it, it came up as a Geforce2 GTS, about a $30-50 cheaper card at the time. I emailed him back and he gave me several excuses as to why this mishap occured including saying his wife sent out the card and must have gotten it mixed up with the other card that was supposed to be sent out...... Well I then looked through his feedback and found that he sold an Ultra to two other people, so I contacted both of them and told them to check there card and how to check there cards, turns out they both got GTS cards as well. So then we all contacted him, I reported him to the fraud alert program, and I believe the others did as well. He has never sold again, I did get a refund through him as well. I know I came out on top and he never sold under that username again.

Good luck to you.
