I'm mostly pissed that Buyers can ONLY receive positive feedback. I'm sorry, but thats just a horrible proposition.

I had a buyer try and tell me 2.5 months after a sale that the item I sold them wasn't working right and were not only completely unreasonable, but rude as well. They left my 1 and only negative.

This is total BS with the no negative feedback, this is the only way to check out the quality of seller.

I guess ebay would rather take whiny scam complaints over whiny negative feedback complaints and pocket the fees from the scams.

What?

buyers CAN leave sellers negs
sellers CAN'T leave buyers negs

so

1. buyers win since no more retal. negs
2. sellers lose since buyers can extort sellers with negs

Yep, so if this policy holds up, I am DONE leaving feedback at all.

Yah I dunno though, it's tough cuz I buy and sell on eBay, and while I haven't had to deal with retal. negs, I work for a company that does em all the time. So I DO side with the buyer.

But as a seller, WTFMATE. A couple of unwarranted negs by douchebags would be disastrous.

I'm very ready to stop leaving feedback myself as a seller.

As a buyer though..life is easier.

I'm torn.

I stand corrected with my original post.

If they are implementing this, they need separate feedback for buying and selling then.

Ebay is on its way out. Can't happen soon enough to suit me. Over the years the bulk of the sellers have shifted from private individuals to largely unscrupulous merchants. It really hasn't been a safe place to play for a while. And the way they run Paypal - if there's a dispute they just take everyone's money. Good riddance.

Unfortunately, craigslist isn't too far behind in its downward spiral, at least where I live (Tucson). Two years ago, there was nobody there. A year ago, there were regular folks there. Now it is being taken over by hucksters.

Yup, my policy is to leave positive feedback AFTER they leave feedback for me. That way, they've documented that they received the item and are happy with it. If they try to scam me, then I can warn people.

The good is that this may enourage more bidding. The bad is that buyers may become more demanding and rude with no recourse for the seller.

The feedback system is pretty much useless as it is, because no one ever leaves a negative out of fear of a retaliatory negative. This change will make their feedback system a lot more effective. Honestly, does feedback for a buyer really matter? No seller is going to refuse to sell to someone because their feedback is < 10 or < 90%. I think a better solution would have been to HIDE feedback about a transaction until both the buyer and seller have left feedback. That should eliminate retaliatory feedback.

Refusing to leave feedback at all when a user deserves positive feedback makes you an asshole.

Kind of like any B&M retail establishment. ;)

people bitch every time ebay raises rates. Yet they fail to see the difference between them getting 0% or 90% of the value of their product.

Come on Google. You've got Google Checkout. Compete in auction land and wipe out these idiots at Ebay/Paypal.

Here's the con.

Most sellers have buyer restrictions - you cannot bid on this item if you have less then 0 feedback.

HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO RECEIVE LESS THAN 0 FEEDBACK IF WE CAN'T GIVE YOU A NEG?

It'll be interesting to see how eBay tweaks the "unpaid item dispute process". If a seller can leave an "unpaid item dispute" without fear of recourse then this will kind of work...

Agreed too.
Honestly I don't have and never had any issues with what I have purchased and sold on ebay... and I have done 100s of deals. Every year I buy presents on there for relatives (both new hard-to-find toys for my kids and odd-ball stuff for my family and friends). As with ANY place you buy from you have to be cautious and use some common sense.

As for fees... they are still cheap in the grand scheme of things. If anything I think it will help cut down on the scum-bag sellers and weed some of them out.

It's the people who run businesses on eBay or at least supplement their income with eBay sales who piss and moan about the rate increases. But they fail to acknowledge that eBay enables them to run a business that would otherwise be unprofitable. There are alternatives to eBay... they just aren't very good alternatives.

You gonna make the hassle of buying a domain name, getting it to show up on search engine, setting up payment processing, etc, etc, etc, just to sell that goddamn copy of "RARE AND OOP JAPANESE TENTACLE PORN 2G1C NWT"?

There is NO better way for a person to sell very few items.

For the businesses, the smart thing to do is to open up a website, promote it, have items on it, and use eBay to clear dead inventory.

That's exactly my point. I'm agreeing with you NS1. Ebay is the best option out there and, IMO charges accordingly for the services that they provide... yet people still itch about it.

I've sold TONS of junk that was WORTHLESS to me. It sat in boxes for lord knows how long. I post it on ebay, a million eyes see it and within a week I have $50 in my bank account. The charge to me? $5. OH NOESS!!!!!!!

Exactly. Screw that shit. I never worked at retail. Even as a teenager I took warehouse jobs.

I'm a great seller and I already get hassled periodically if I don't send a tracking number the day it's shipped.

And, fricking A, I've been a member since 1999 and have one negative feedback out of 500 sales and Mr 5 Feedback is going to put me over a rack when he gets his OEM video card and the VGA adapter is missing. Argh.

Lots of people sell new items. Who cares if it's your old junk. But what about people that sell new items?
