yes, they reduced insertion fees by 5 cents and have free gallery now, but

final value fee is gonna be +3.5% from 5.25 to 8.75% for the first $25 then 3.5% for the rest!!!! ugh, someone needs to make a decent alternative! at least i sold 90% of my stuff last month and during the 10 cent listing days, but damn, what can stop them and paypal from screwing over sellers

I don't know, as a seller I can still sell crap that I would normally end up throwing away and make cash from it. How am I losing, even with the rate increases?

Pretty soon they are going to just say:

"You know what? You got the joy of selling, my friend paypal could use some cash...let's just call it even."

fs/t is good, but sometimes ebay sells things alot faster. I thought their rates were fair at what they were before, but a 3.25% increase is alot. don't forget that on top of all this paypal screws you, and then there's shipping which can be cheap or alot depending on what you sell and where it's shipped to

Solution:
Make your shipping and handling fee proportionate to the final value. For example, you could specify "Shipping is $10.00 + 5% of final value"

There is a precedence for this: A lot of retail stores charge shipping based on value of merchandise.

I've been using Craigslist to sell "everyday" stuff like electronics, tools, and household stuff. The only thing I've sold on eBay recently is a collectible.

That never works, people will just put a lower max bid to make up for it. The few times I buy off ebay, I consider the final price, not the bid price.

Its against eBay's TOS to openly charge the buyer for your fees, but that doesn't stop you from checking completed listings to get a good idea of what your items sell for then add in that percentage to your shipping and handling, but just don't advertise it.

he's right. people bidding on serious items consider the final price incl shipping... sometimes it works, but more often it doesn't

Ebay also has the search option changed.
Its now Highest price + shipping and lowest price + shipping.

That's the whole point, the buyer pays the same amount to you, but you will get charge a smaller final value fee by jacking up the shipping.

I actually like the new fee structure

lower listing fees, higher FVF fees MARGINALLY. It's a 3% increase from like $5 to $25 ONLY, and a .25 or so increase for amounts above that.

ALSO they are FINALLY enlisting a Powerseller fee discount program!!!!

5-15% off fees for powersellers, fucking GREAT>

FREE gallery also, which is like a .35 savings PER LISTING

and I have mixed feelings on this, but buyers can ONLY receive postive feedback.

if everyone gets gallery for free, it stops being a special feature.

surely there is also a "Super Gallery" or "Gallery Plus" now...

edit:

5-15% off fees for powersellers, fucking GREAT>
man, that's so unfair.

frickin powersellers :(

It's no longer a special feature, but it's a MUCH needed feature for all listings.

and it's so fair. Powersellers already give eBay hundreds per month in fees AND paypal a ton in fees. We deserve that discount =P

Glad a I got rid of a bunch of stuff before this, this really makes people not want to sell low priced items on there anymore.

an item that sells for 25 charged 5% incurs a 1.25 fee
an item that sells for 25 charged 8% incurs a 2.00 fee

a .75 difference
LESS gallery bonus (.35) = .45
LESS reduced listing fee (.10) = .35 difference

if your profit margin is defined by .35 then you need to sell other things ;)

** This "higher fee" is further subsidized if your item doesn't sell because it costs you less to relist every time.
