Ebay feedback

Muse

Lifer
Most eBayer's have high feedback scores and I figure it's partly because it's a two way street. If you leave someone other than positive feedback they might do the same to you, whether deserved or not.

Case in point: I sold an item on eBay 9 days ago or so. The buyer didn't respond to my invoices (I sent two) and I filed a non-paying buyer claim after 7 days. Next day (yesterday) he pays me by Paypal. Now I figure I should leave some feedback that puts this guy in his place but what's to stop him from slamming me with bad feedback in retaliation? I figure I can add a note, but wouldn't a negative stick?

I have 90 days in which to leave feedback? What's the concept? That he will leave me feedback first and then I'm safe to leave him neutral or negative?

after 90 days when the transaction ends, you will not have the chance to leave the feedback anymore
in otherwords if he leaves feedback for you. You won't have a chance to return a feedback on your behalf.
But i think you should be able to follow up to his feedback in any case

Hmm. I'm trying to make sense of this. Suppose he leaves me feedback in two weeks (it's going to take a good week for him to get this - I'm sending it parcel post this morning). Then, can I leave him neutral or negative feedback and not be susceptible to him leaving me anything bad? Or is the idea that I wait exactly 90 days when he can't do anything?

well once he leaves his feedback then you are free to return any form of response.
He can only write a follow up or respond to your feedback whether it is a positive, neutral or negative.
But cannot change his initial feedback that he has wrote to you.

NO, it is not necessary to wait 90 days.
Because the follow up and response ( giving him a chance to fight for his case ) can be done even after 90 days I believe. Btw, follow up and response to a feedback left does not count towards your feedback score. It just works as a counter explaination

Only the initial feedback that counts towards the total reputation of your feedback score.

Well,
There are some ways to retract the feedback but it will take too much headache to get ebay involved to study the case. I think u can look up for it on the "sitemap".
Total waste of time I would say just to dispute a feedback that is left. And it doesn't guarantee a removal of feedback unless you are totally convincing. =). Like wise the same trouble for the other party.

hope that helps.

Yes, it helps. Thanks. I think my plan is going to be:

1. Send the package to him (within the hour).

2. Wait and see if he leaves me feedback.

3. If he does, I'll leave the feedback he deserves.

4. If he doesn't leave feedback, I won't either - just walk away from it. I kind of think he will leave feedback, though.

Yeah, eBay is screwed with that stupid system. At least he paid. If he didn't, I would have had to leave him negative feedback. He seems to win an item almost every day. He doesn't appear very bright. He's probably real busy, too - sort of overburdened. His English seems very weak, not to mention his typing. It's a petty matter, but he's not the best eBayer. 🙂

If he gives you feedback, positive or negative, then it makes no difference if you wait or not. If he does not leave you feedback, then waiting until the 90th day will give him less opportunity to leave you a negative in return.

getting paid in 8 days doesn't warrant a negative or even a neutral. Unless your auction specifically stated that you required immediate payment.

OK, I'm inclined to agree with you now. I sure felt differently before he paid me but when I think about the circumstances I'm definitely inclined to forgive him. He's winning an auction almost every day - over 20 in the last 30 days. He probably bids on a lot more than he wins. He's getting stuff in the mail or UPS or Fedex most days. His inbox probably is absolutely littered with eBay messages and he looks to be not very computer savvy, at least he types very badly. Too, English isn't his native tongue, is my guess. I think he's Spanish speaking. I'm definitely feeling I want to give him a break on this. I invoiced him twice, but the mistake I made was being bashful about outright sending him a personal email. That, he probably would have noticed. I think he probably simply didn't notice the invoices and didn't realize that he had an unpaid item. My assumption that he was ignoring me may be in error. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks, everyone, for your participation in this thread.

That's what I figured. Thanks!

I'm curious whether payment policies as stated in an auction can override ebay policies. iirc the ebay "rule" is that you have like 10 days to pay.

I'm also curious. I see a lot of listings where a person will say that they require payment in X number of days, say 3. They generally don't say what they will do if it doesn't turn out that way. The eBay policy is that you can file a non-paying buyer dispute after 7 days. Here's the page at eBay.

I know you can place an "IMMEDIATE PAYMENT REQUIRED" or "PAYPAL ACCOUNT REQUIRED" options
But not too sure about the rights to demand for payment required within how many days.
Though because the seller has every right to stipulate his/her terms.
It is written in BLACK AND WHITE.
Bidding for an item with a clear discription is a contract.
If they don't agree, they should not bid on it in the first place.
