someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't proxy bidding the end-all of bids ? As long as your top bid is still higher, it wins. Sniper programs beat this somehow ?

They can't really beat out a high proxy bid, but they can serve to keep bidding lower / help eliminate bidding wars which you do have with proxy bidding.
I win auctions by putting in my highest proxy bid within the last 30secs of an auction. I don't see how sniping would affect me either way.

What you are doing IS sniping, you just aren't using a 3rd party program to accomplish it.

I love hammer snipe, it's free if you only want to snipe 10 sec out... and you can buy on a per auction basis if you want it closer to call time.

dunno, when i read the title i thought of a sniper and a gun ;( I thought it was a killing spree in some state dealing with ebay packages. With that said you can tell i never used ebay before.

if you're desperate for an item, ideally it's best for you to be present during the final seconds of the auction so you can -- yes -- do it yourself. sometimes i win an auction simply because i bid in the final 10 seconds of the auction while another individual tried 15 seconds before me. seconds are critical.

Yeaaa snipers...

I've always wanted to be one.

I mean, what boy didn't want to be a sniper at one time? It was a toss up between that, and a transformer.

Use eBay's built-in sniping software... called proxy bidding. Bid what you're willing to pay for the item, no more, no less. If you get outbid, it's because someone was willing to pay more.
