How else were emergency vehicles to get through? I think that MIRT was a good idea, while it lasted.

Here the drivers just get the fook out of the way :)

Same here. But that's not true in many areas. And what if someone didn't hear/see the emergency vehicle, and proceeded through a green light, as usual... and was broadsided by a fire truck. Oops.

What the hell happens if two drivers going perpendicular to each other towards an intersection both have an MIRT?

:Q :Q :Q :(

Light changes in accordance to whichever one activates last. This type of thing happens a lot - especially with cops. One of them will make a turn, thinking they're clear because the opposing traffic has a red, but then another cop barrels up the road and they meet.

I can see this becoming a class thing where all high end Mercedes, BMWs, Jags, etc. come equipped with a MIRT as a selling point in the future :)

"Amaze family and friends as every light you go through suddenly turns green! No more waiting around like a commoner at redlights. MIRT will get you to that important business meeting faster than ever helping your bank account grow even fatter!"

Using one should result in automatica suspension of license for no less than a year. The average joe shouldn't be using one.

Amen.

However, there should be some system in place for those of us that do have a legit reason to have one... firefighters, etc.
