Hey guys....

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.....

I am selling a Portable CD player on Ebay.....auction has 3 days to go, 4 bids, still not met reserve. I have a Buy It Now price of $50 on this, and today some guy Buys it Now.

Then he sends me an email saying "oh, I made a mistake, I meant to bid $15, but instead of hitting confirm, I hit Buy it now, I cant afford to pay $50 for this....."

I emailed him back and told him he had to retract his bid, and told him how to do it......this was a few hours back and he still has not done it.

So....my auction has ended. Anyone watching this item will assume that it's sold, I have been charged a sale fee by Ebay, and I am stuck with a buyer who has no intention of buying....great huh.

If he does retract his bid, does the auction go back to where it was before he bid? I know it does regularly, but not sure about Buy It Now.

What should I do?

tell him he "bought it now" and you have been charged by ebay...therefore he needs to cough it up

tell him that he needs to comply with Ebay Auction terms and conditions and pay you the reserve.

If he refuses, give him a negative rating.

yeah but if he doesn't want it, he isn't going to pay for it

worst I can do is leave him bad feedback....doesn't help me sell it

He won the auction (since he didn't retract his bid), so you should treat it that way. Send him a letter congratulating him on winning, along with the amount he owes and how he can pay it. Tell him you'd like to hear from him within 3 days with his shipping information and if he doesn't pay up within 10 days (or if he says he's not paying sooner), file a Non-Paying Bidder Alert on him to recoup your fees, then leave negative feedback for him.

ummmm. I know you can cancel a bid from somebody DURING an auction
I just wonder if you can cancel a "buy now"

Thanks zmatrix

FYI for the rest of you:

If they use Buy It Now, the auction ends and the bid cannot be retracted by the buyer or cancelled by the seller..

this happened to me too, they guy bid on it and said it was an accident. i told him to send me a check for the re-listing fee, at first he said he would but never did, then i filed a non-paying bidder alert or something through ebay and he sent me a check so he wouldnt get a negative feedback or a non-paying bidder thing.
After i re-listed it i sold it for like 30 bux more so it worked out
