I bought a couple UPS (uninterruptible power supplies) off an auction. The auction besides canned text from APC bragging about the battery backup features and the specs said "Used looks and works great". I sent her an email asking if she knew how long they had been used for or how old they were. She said that she had no idea about either but she had tested them and "all is good".
I got them this morning and after all day of charging, they are still as dead as they were this morning. The batteries have absolutely no life in them and can't even power a light bulb. If you do the automatic test on the unit, it does the steady long beep indicating that it is dead. There is no question in my mind about both of these units being dead. I have to assume that her testing was along the lines of plug it in, plug something in the back and it works as a pass-through or push the test button and beeping means that it is ok.
I have little to no desire to keep these UPSes that are not what were advertised and are only good for a really oversized and overweight surge protector. I sent her an email inquiring what test she performed on these so that I could run this test as well. When I tell her that test failed, what should I request? Purchase price refund? Price + s/h? Price + s/h + return s/h? Some fraction of it? How will ebay stand with me on this?
I have never dealt with this sort of problem and I am new to ebay auction stuff so any advice and help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Summary:
1) Bought UPS x 2.
2) Inquired. I was told they were tested and "all is good".
3) Received. Neither works.
4) What next?
