Ebay auction advice

I bought a couple UPS (uninterruptible power supplies) off an auction. The auction besides canned text from APC bragging about the battery backup features and the specs said "Used looks and works great". I sent her an email asking if she knew how long they had been used for or how old they were. She said that she had no idea about either but she had tested them and "all is good".

I got them this morning and after all day of charging, they are still as dead as they were this morning. The batteries have absolutely no life in them and can't even power a light bulb. If you do the automatic test on the unit, it does the steady long beep indicating that it is dead. There is no question in my mind about both of these units being dead. I have to assume that her testing was along the lines of plug it in, plug something in the back and it works as a pass-through or push the test button and beeping means that it is ok.

I have little to no desire to keep these UPSes that are not what were advertised and are only good for a really oversized and overweight surge protector. I sent her an email inquiring what test she performed on these so that I could run this test as well. When I tell her that test failed, what should I request? Purchase price refund? Price + s/h? Price + s/h + return s/h? Some fraction of it? How will ebay stand with me on this?

I have never dealt with this sort of problem and I am new to ebay auction stuff so any advice and help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Summary:
1) Bought UPS x 2.
2) Inquired. I was told they were tested and "all is good".
3) Received. Neither works.
4) What next?

she probably just plugged them in and the led was on, so she thought it was working...

ask for a full refund, or work out a more fair price for a non-working UPS...you can buy replacement batteries for APC usually...

what model number?

what's her feedback like?

Back-UPS 450 (BK450). Feedback is 100% positive at like 75.

Any advice please?

i would talk to her first and see how she responds. IF she is not willing to refund them, or at least compinsate you becuase they are not as advertised, then i would kick it up a notch and dispute the charges

If WW is correct, and you can replace the batteries... (Not that I know jack about UPS'...)

Figure out what it would cost to fix them, and ask her to refund that amount. If that's not feasible, then ask for your entire purchase price back (including shipping). I wouldn't concern yourself with the return shipping, though.

With her good feedback, I doubt she's trying to rip you off.

I'd get a refund of the purchase price and keep them. You can always buy replacement batteries for them. Chances are she got them for free anyway.

someone on ebay is selling replacement batteries for $11, plus $7 shipping...$4 shipping on each additional battery...so two would be about $33.

Not cheap, but not the end of the world either. Not original apc batteries, replacements.

search for BK450
