Haha. I for one, would applaud this measure, were it taken. DIAF scalpers!

Supposedly, on the last page, it's debunked as "just a rumor". 🙁

Unconfirmed, unverified forum post. That's as good as gold.

I had typed out a decently long explanation of this but I imagine it would be falling on deff ears.

Do you really think we care about an explanation of capitalism? People get emotional about scalping so logic and reason go out the window. In reality everyone (other than scalpers) should be pissed at the game companies for releasing such a short supply of units.

I agree that we should all be pissed at the game companies for not shipping enough units but the scalpers are taking alot of heat for something that is the game companies fault. They are providing an oppertunity to make alot of money and I dont think the people taking most of the heat (scalpers) desirve it.

Disclamer: I have no systems preordered and never have.

Fsck capitalism. What these people do is completely immoral. They (scalpers) should be ashamed of themselves.

Why?

They see an oppertunity to make money and are doing it. They arnt taking advantage of anyone who will be hurt for it because if you can spend 2500 on a videogame then you either have $ to throw away or you have bigger financial problems to worry about.

It's wrong because you are taking advantage of a situation to make a quick buck.

You took away the opportunity for little Billy the cancer patient who only had a few weeks to live who really wanted to play the PS3. His parents can't afford to pay the high price that the "market" is willing to pay so they have to wait until after christmas to get one from a retail store. Billy died last night. It's alright though, because you made $500 profit and some rich guy got to have another toy to add to his collection.

Just because you can do something doesn't make it right. Sure, nobody got hurt, but Billy never got the opportunity to play with something really cool before he died.

It's not a typical situation but it's a perfect example.

If GameStop was actually cancelling the preorders (which it appears for now that they are not), their motive for doing so would be the same as those of the scalpers - to make money. And yet the scalpers are up in arms about someone trying to put the kibosh on their profits.

It would be beautiful irony, I think, if the scalpers got bit in the ass by the same ideals that they preach in their own defense. I have nothing against scalping, but I think it would be funny. (as I've said before, I think a person would be crazy to buy a PS3 for the retail price on launch day and NOT resell it, because they're essentially paying $1500 for that PS3 when you figure in the lost eBay profits)

Hey guys, big update:

I just spoke to Ken Kutaragi (he and I see the same dentist; you'll have to take my word for it). Sony anticipated the whole reselling thing, so they issued a round of fake pre-orders to throw off the resellers. The real pre-orders have yet to be done; they are going to reveal the secret time and location to pre-approved buyers who sign a waiver giving up their rights to resell their PS3 for a profit.

Trust me on this one, guys. It's not like I'm a random guy posting anonymously on the internet.

I'll pay you to tell me the secret time and location. I promise I won't sell it on ebay.

This same scenerio could be made about everybody who ever does business with anyone with the attempt to make a profit...... If you don't like scalpers or ebay then move out of this country because that is how our economy works. buy low sell high!
what about house flippers, real estate moguls , stock traders etc.

Should we ban them as well?

Move to communist country if you don't like it the state controls everything and you have no opportunity.

scalpers and ebayers wouldn't have a market if they wasn't anyone buying.

US markeeters at there finest. gotta have it now generation = big profits on small supply items.

Seeing as how there is a "limited" supply initially, you can relate this to ticket scalping. Don't know if this is true or not, but good if it is. Thanks to these people and the mofos who hoard tickets, I couldn't score anything for a concert last year. Meanwhile, on ebay, tickets were available for months after "selling out" for 10x their original.

But the people who get a console from ebay still buy games somewhere.

But they're not guaranteed to get the sales of those games.

It is far easier to get customers to purchase things when they're already in the store. Which all these other customers would've been when they came to pick up their machines.[/quote]

All except for the ones selling their machines on ebay....get it? Now they'll have the machine to give to someone who genuinely wants it and some games to go with it.

True, it still doesn't garauntee them the game sales, but it certainly increases the likelihood.

what a stupid fvcking example.

blame it on sony for only putting out 400K systems then. or blame it on billy's lazy fvcking parents who didn't think it was worth it to spend 12+ hours in line to get a system for their son who is on their deathbed.

don't give me this crap. everyone has the same opportunity to get a system as the next person. it's just about how bad you want it and how much you are willing to give up to get it (time or money).
