EAX and Battlefield Vietnam

Playing Battlefield Vietnam with EAX kills my frame rates. This is really noticable on the Ho Chi Minh Trail map. Turn EAX off and my frame rates are way back up. Any idea on how to fix this? I have an Audigy2 ZS sound card so this should be done in hardware.

Yes I got the latest drivers/BIOS also.

System specs:
Intel 865PERL
2.4GHz (800MHz FSB)
1GB Ram

Happens with all the video cards I have tried also, Ti4200, 5800 Ultra(dont ask), and 6800 GT.

Playing the game with Miles 2D sucks compared to 5.1 EAX

the implemintation of EAX in vietnam sucks, the games coding is horrible, check out my complain about EAX support in it in the software forums, i think this is more of DICE's fault than creative.

I had a similar problem with Call of Duty. EAX turns the game into a choppy mess, and this on an AMD64 3200+ and 9800XT. On the other hand, UT2004 doesn't appear to have any problems. Maybe it has to do with developer coding. DICE didn't do that much better with Battlefield 1942. Still, could it be a driver problem?
