EAX 5.0 from 2.0?

I am thinking of upgrading my Audigy ZS to a x-fi gamer. What I am asking is if I will notice the difference in EAX 2.0 to 5.0?

If you have really nice speakers and play EAX 5.0 enabled games, there is a difference. In BF2 I noticed some extra sounds with the highest sound settings vs standard sound. However that is with Logitech Z-5500 5.1 surround. I'm not sure if the difference will be noticeable with lesser speakers, and another thing to keep in mind is that the difference is pretty small, probably not worth $100 unless you are looking for the absolute best.

I have Klipsch promedia 5.1's

Best Buy has the card on sale for $75. That is why I htought if it was a big enough difference it would be worth it. As you describe it I may as well save my money. It doesn't seem like I will hear enough of a difference for the money.

What I am playing now is Oblivion and Gothic 3 I don't know if they are EAX 5 or not.

The Audigy 2 ZS supports EAX 4.0. I don't know about Gothic 3, but Oblivion does not use EAX by default. I'm working on a plugin that adds it, but it's only EAX 2.0.

What you say confirms that my buying a new card is not worth it. If the games do not support EAX 5 my current card is fine. I would be interested to know when you finish the mod for EAX for Oblivion. That should made the effects in the game that much better.
