I just finished this great book that gives an extremely simple advice in how to eat healthy, and also explain how the food industry in America is being controlled by nutritionists.

If you have a chance, go pick it up. A very simple and interesting read.

Some good points from the book:
- Eat food. Food that your great grandparents can recognize. Not fake food like cheeze in a can or other foodlike substances that the food industry wants you to buy
- The american food industry is now mainly focused on nutrients in food, things like good fat, bad fat, anti-oxidants, etc. Why are they not focused on whole foods like tomatoes, meat, etc? Because simply there is more money in identifying nutrients and creating food enriched with such nutrients rather than simply selling whole foods.
- The western diet is bad for your health. Health of other cultures quickly deteriorates after the introduction of the western diet.

And other things that I don't have time to write here

I've stayed fit and trim by following the basics of the South Beach diet for the last 5 years-

DON'T EAT PROCESSED FOOD. As a rule of thumb, if the food has to go through a machine, it's not good for you.

What about fresh grade A grass-fed beef ground into hamburger meat through a meat grinder?

Or fresh garlic cloves diced through a food processor??

Or-or-or wheat grass processed into wheat grass juice ???

Ok ok.. I'm being an ass... I'll stop now.

This looks interesting. I am very health-conscious when it comes to my food. I refuse to eat fast food. And I try to stay away from processed foods entirely. Sure, I'll occassionally eat macoroni and cheese or hamburger helper, but it isn't a mainstay. I mostly subside on cold sandwiches and fresh fruit and 100% fruit juices. I also try to eat high fiber cereals. I also love eggs.

I am finding myself eating less and less meat lately. The thought of eating another things flesh makes me kind of sick to my stomach (its hit and miss though). I also don't like the health risks involved with eating meat: high cholesterol, saturated and unsaturated fats, etc.

Humans have been eating meat for millions of years and we're still around. Its the way we prepare it today that's the problem, too much fat in the meat from herd animals, growth hormones, etc.

Venison and other such meats from more wild animals taste great and are much better for you that the beef you buy at walmart that was raised on steriods, antibiotics, and ground up paste made from other cows.

Where can I get more information on this subject? Do I pretty much just need to buy it from the right place? I like chicken a lot, beef is pretty good, but I'm not sure how I feel about pork. I question myself on it almost daily.

I want to know what their definition of "Nutritionist" is. Because our dietary staples would make any nutritionist worth his weight in spinach run away crying.

It amazes me how people are so afraid of things that pose no risk whatsoever to them.

As for growth hormones, it was proven decades ago that bovine growth hormones have NO effect on humans. It is biologically impossibe for humans to be affected by ingested bST.
