I've used macrium Reflect a couple of times when replacing drives ... if you dont uninstall it when you are done, the eventual update nags are a bit annoying, but, overall i've been very pleased with their product

lol, you aren't kidding with the nagging. Hell it seems like it does it every 20 minutes.

There must be a way to disable Macrium Reflect free from starting with Windows and/or checking for updates because the only time I see an update message is when I open the program.

It has always been a solid program for my occasional usage. I've even imaged two windows 8 installs, updated to windows 10 and then restored the Windows 8 images with no issues.

I actually paid for Acronis, it's not all that expensive and the boot CD is all you really need and it's one of the better image programs I've used. The issue with Filezilla is it does absolutely no form of compression or anything, it's basically just a front end to dd. So if you have a 10TB volume you want to image, you need exactly 10TB just to store the image.

There's an hourly check for updates you can disable in the settings!

OP, free version of Reflect is here:

A couple options:

1. Plug in both drives & do a direct clone (SATA/USB/whatever)

2. Clone to an image, then create a bootable USB stick with the PE environment, then install the replacement drive & restore the clone to the new drive.

I have a big USB key on my keychain for exactly this...install Reflect Free, setup the USB stick as a boot environment (slimmed-down Windows that boots up to Macrium for restoring), then clone the currently-installed drive to an image file on the stick. Swap out drives, boot up to USB, restore that image to the new drive, voila! You can also do it if you have a USB stock or USB NVMe adapter or M.2. adapter or whatever type of interface it is that you need. Or just do it internally if you have the cables/connections. Really easy!

Currently use MiniTool Partition Wizard v10.2.2 which still has the full cloning feature. They removed some of it in version 12.

In addition if you buy a drive from any of the larger companies like Samsung or WD they'll usually have a gimped version you can download and use for free.

In fact the WD version will work with any brand drive provided you have a Sandisk or WD device installed. (or at least it did a couple months ago)

The full version of Acronis is worth paying for if you need its unique features but if all you need to do is clone a few drives, buy a cheap Sandisk flash-drive and use the free version.

I just create a rescue media and use that instead of the installed software.
