has anyone ever used this easy tuner for overclocking?

thinking of trying overclocking and wondered if this is good to use.

want to overclock my E6750 cpu to 3.0 mhz but not sure what voltage to use. it's at 1.35 now.

as for my memory 2GB Ballistix 8500, 1066. can i leave this at 1066, with my cpu overclocked? voltage is 2.20 at 1065.


this is all info from easytuner5.


any info or help will be helpful.

EasyTune5 does exactly what its name suggests. OCing is rather simple using the program. I think getting a 3.0GHz OC on 1.35 volts is not a problem for you.

I'd also download the latest version of memtest to tweak your memory timings if you don't want to do it via the motherboard (or can't, like me, who skimped on a DS3L)

Edit: on RAM ratios. The easiest 3.0 OC would be to bump your FSB to 375MHz (8x375=3000) using 1:2 or 1:3 memory ratios would get you 750 or 1125 for the RAM, respectively. I'm not a great fan of going crazy with weird divider settings (9:11 or what not) so if you want to loosen your RAM timings to say 5-7-7-23 then you should be able to hit 1125 on 2.2 volts.

another option is to see how far you can push your FSB. a multiplier of 6 with 500MHz fsb would also get you 3GHz plus you could run your RAM at a nice and comfortable (crazy-divider-free) 1000MHz (5-5-5-20 timings) 2.2 volts.

i cant tweak my timing using the bios. i dont have that option. only voltages. might be cos of the F4 bios.

but will my memory be ok if i left it at 1066?

lol, you posted while I was editing my post (gotta stop doing that)

personally I'm not a fan of memory dividers, as said in the edit. My past experience tells me running odd dividers like 8:7 or 7:5 tends to yield more computational glitches.
As said before, shoot for 6x500 (work your way up, don't jump all the way there on the first go).

I also realized the program for tweaking RAM in windows is not memtest...must be a brain fart on my part, but I can't recall the name of the program (despite having used it for a couple of weeks, lol) I'll have to wait till I get home to see what prgm it is...you could also google for software for tweaking RAM

ok. we'll before i had my cpu clocked to 3.4 x 8 and ram at 1063 ( 2.50) and did a orthos test for 8 hours. it was fine.

but i dont understand timing. someone said to set the ratio to 2.0 to make it even ,but then my memory was running slower. in the end i just changed it all back to default.

but i need to learn and understand about ram, voltages and timing!

seriously it just goes right over my head.

timing (CAS tRAS and etc) effect how fast your RAM makes requests and receives information from the CPU. It doesn't effect bandwidth as far as I know, since that has more to do with the clock speed. However a memory running at 5-5-5 1000MHz would probably out perform memory running at 7-7-7 1100MHz due to the faster timings (smaller gaps between signal request/receive, kinda like lower lag) generally, like clock speed, lower timings (faster) require higher voltages for stability. I have the same RAM as you, and can say from experience that 2.2 volts should definitely get you a safe 1063MHz at 5-5-5-23

the ratio settings in the GA BIOS is pretty simple math. at 2.00, you're dealing with a 1:2 timing, which means for every clock of your FSB, the memory gets 2.00 clocks. Since you're running at 3.4GHz with a x8 multiplier (425FSB), your ram would run at 425x2.00=850MHz, or 425x2.50=~1063MHz

on a side note...what the hell are you worrying about OCing your proc to 3GHz if you already hit 3.4 stable?

Edit: and I finally remembered. the program is called memset. google it to find a download link. Some people seems to have trouble getting it to run correctly but I didn't have any problems with it. As long as you don't input any crazy numbers you won't fry your RAM XD

i couldnt sort my ram out. lol if i leave it at 2.50 1063 will that be ok? 2.2 volts? i will have to do that in my bios. and not use easy tuner.

i'm sure i changed my ddr voltage though. think it was 0.05 once it was at 0.15 i think. but thats when i realised i didnt know exactlly what i was doin. it's only in easytuner5 where i can change the 2.2v in bios it for ddr voltage control in goes up in 5's. whats is this?

i actually did find one, but it said it wasnt for my chipset.


also my default timing is 5:8 5- 7- 7- 24, so the timing isn't that great then is it?

once I get home I could email an archived file of my memset prgm to you, I'm also using P35 so I don't see why it wouldn't work...If you're still around in 7 hours or so you should check your email (should I just use the one in your profile?)

i'll go for the 3.4 again and do another athos test, with the new ram setting that you give me. i dont know about the ram, what do you think? i dont want to lose any speed. rather overclock it abit if can, they had great review for overclocking, i just dont know how.

anyway give me your final opinion and show me some screenshot, plus what to change for my ram setting.

thats just the thing your bios is different to mine. i dont have the choice to change the memory timing on mine. i'll take a photo and show you my bios, gimme 5 mins.

Well there 2 possible solutions to this....


1) Your bios is truly different. In that case, my bad

or

2) You didn't read the whole thread that I gave you :) You must press "ctrl+f1" at main bios menu to get the extra settings. Then go into M.I.T.

Every system is different and it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. My bios settings (in that thread) gave me a 3.6 OC. Read that thread. Maybe start at 3.2 with stock settings. then go from there. There are lot of people watching that thread that could help you also.

if you got 3.4 stable you were doing great. Go ahead and try bios settings for 3.6 and see what happens.

i got 3.4 8hr stable with orthos before, but i was stuck with tuning my ram!

should i set thecpu volt at 1.45 for this overclock? and shall i try 4-4-4-12 timing with my current 2.2v?
