I usually took a flame to a razor blade and started cutting down deep enough to get it out. It's kind of messy but doesn't hurt as much as you would think if you use a very sharp blade.

Applying some Neo Sporin and covering the area with a bandaid may soften the skin around the splinter enough to make it easier to remove it. It will also help to stop any infection and inflamation.

yeah the splinter will move along with the skin it's embedded in, so when the layer of skin it's embedded in eventually reaches the surface, it will fall out. I think your body would make some sort of callous around the splinter so it doesn't go any farther in.

Cut it out with a knife. This isn't my favorite option, either, but it does work...

I have skin like leather. Usually I just soak my skin until it becomes pretty easy to work the splinter out. This one is a bit deeper.

Any suggestions?

I work in construction and have dealt with many splinters. Usually when they are deep as yours I use a black salve, I can't remember the name because it isn't in front of me. It is like a grease that somehow draws the sliver out. I put it on twice a day and cover it with a bandage and in a few days it just slides right out, with a tweezer that is. The Phaarmacist should know.

cut your hand off??? you wouldn't notice any pain in your hand while trying to remove it then... :p

I'd just ice your hand or whatever body part it is, and remove it when numb..

If it isn't hurting too much you could just leave it in there and let your body break it down

are there any adverse reactions to doing this?
Depends what the splinter is made of. A glass splinter might not get infected if you wash the wound well, but it won't break down - hope it works its own way out. A wood splinter is not going to be sterile and will likely get infected unless it comes out.

A friend of mine got a glass spinter in his and, never got it out... later on, five years later it came out after he slammed his fist into the table. Funny, and odd... but I was there to see it...
