I've seen some people who have modded their 5.25" bay blanks onto the front of their CDROM drives so it looks like there are no drives installed in the computer at all. I'm getting ready to get a new black case would like to use the blanks to cover the fronts of my CDROM drives.

I do realize that i will have to use the eject function of the OS, but thats no big deal. Any tips?

i just want to do it as a "see if i can do it" kind of thing and was hoping someone else had tried it out

Paint them if your looking for color matching. 3 or 4 thin even coats, just dust them. And dont be cheap on the paint, the .99 cent stuff just wont cut it.

I've posted my modification on how I did this to my case. I can actually still open the drive by just pushing at the right spot on the cover. Here's my "guide": Link.

I saw one stealth mod that used velcro instead of 2-sided foam. My guess is that it'd be useful in the event that the drive needed to be opened manually - just remove the drive plate, put the pin into the hole on the front of the drive, remove the CD, fiddle with the guts to fix the problem, and reattach the drive plate.

I dunno about the whole easy removal, but velcro is a better choice for those of us who aren't so good at positioning the blank, it allows for some "wiggle" when installing without weakening the hold (like pulling on glue does).

looks like instead of glue, the thing to use is adhesive foam. i'll let ya know how it goes if my case ever gets here
