easy way to backup OUTLOOK emails?

I have around 200 emails, many with pictures, that I'd like to archive..Easiest way to do this with outlook(not outlook express)? I have been able to archive the text emails but not the ones with files/pictures attached.. Thanks!

there's a PST file that has all your emails, which will be under your profile in documents and settings. do a search for it, its called outlook.pst (if you use outlook, not express.)

it will have exaclty what is in all your emails. zip it up and send it.

1 of my co-workers was telling me the other day tha , he has 2-3 k mails and because of everything being in 1 file it takes an IMMENSE amount of time to load


i use netscape mail myself, works well

Remember to always keep the .pst file under 2GB or you'll be sorry.

I use Outlook at work and have thousands of emails (but split across multiple folders). On my ancient P2-266 machine Outlook loads up in about 15 seconds. Emails are stored on the network, though.

zip it up and put it somewhere else. try opening outlook. if it starts a new pst file, then great!

yeh you are using IMAP as opposed to to POP

Emails being stored on the network may mean that is where he stores his pst file. We do that at my work place. No important files are stored locally, so when there is hardware failure or any other problem, we can either reimage it and reload outlook w/o backing up info or just give the person a new machine.

The same can be done with Eudora.

Anyway, to answer the person's question, just back up the pst file. Your address book, tasks, calendar, and email will all be in there. There are several ways to restore it, so check up on that too.

I had over 7k at one point (really lazy about deleting stuff), that measured about 4 gigs, and it would take maybe 30 seconds to load my inbox.

Outlook 2k3 does. As does Outlook 2002.

I'm amazed at how well it works at the lowest setting. The highest setting has to filter everything.

Outlook 2k3 also takes care of the 2gb pst file size limit. We have users approaching it and had to upgrade them.
