Easy to vectorize?

I've been tasked to vectorize a logo during my free-time on winter break!

After watching some tutorial videos on Adobe Illustrator, it doesn't seem that bad, for the B&W one at least.

Do you guys have any tips for vectorizing this specific image?

source (I've tried to find the original without any luck at all 🙁)

Because of a lack of funds, money can't really be spent to have it done professionally, so I might as well pick up some experience and try to give a decent output.

By the way, does anyone know the font used on the banner portion?

I took a shot with RealDraw's vectorizer. The part in the lower right doesn't work at all but the main logo looks okay. Here it is in four formats since I don't know which will work for you.

I can make these four vector formats but can only open pdf so I'm hoping the others worked as well.
