Clean the tip by flooding it with solder. Wipe it off on a damp sponge and re-tin before soldering.

Ideally, you use deionized water on the sponge to prevent scale from building up on the soldering tip, but a quick wipe with vinegar can fix that if it ever happens.

yassine - cooling down the tip isn't the main purpose of the wipe. If you were to use a temperature-controlled soldering iron, you'd only be getting rid of the blob of solder.
 
I doubt I can manage any of that but I still don't understand how i'm supposed to connect the trackball to the mouse board (PDF in OP), it doesn't make any sense to me. I can fill a bunch of holes with rosin but that's not going to connect it to the trackball device. Agh....I'm in way over my head again 😛
