Easy question

Hi all
I just bought this wireless router:
http://www.planex.co.jp/productx/router/mzk-wnh/index.shtml
It is just a standard router.
We already have a wired internet system that works great. We just wanted to add wireless capability. Can I just plug the new router into the existing router through one of the spare internet cables?
I tried this, and my iphone picked up the signal right away, although it was "locked". IIUC, to activate it I have to connect (with a cable) to a PC, and run teh installation disk the router came with.
We tried this, but it didnt work (although we may have made a mistake in the installation process). We got part way through the process, and then an unexpected menu came up, which we followed through, and it ended up not working.
Next we tried swapping teh routers out completely, but then it tried to make a new network, and none of the computers on our network worked.

what I would like to do is just add teh router the way I innitialy wanted, that way I can put it in a good transmitting spot without all the cables from 3 PCs hanging out of it.

Any idea what to do?

Sorry, its all in Japanese, and my wife has trouble translating it for me, so installation is a bit irritating and clumsy.

Did you connect the two switch ports together or did you use the WAN port on the Planex device?

You should connect the two switches together and ignore the WAN port on teh Planex. There could possibly be an IP conflict, so you may want to take a computer off the LAN and connect it directly to the Planex on the switch port. Then run the software. Ensure you reboot the router and refresh the IP on the computer (though this should be automatic).

Connect a single computer directly to one of the LAN ports on the Planex router (not connected to the rest of your network). Run the setup on the router to configure the wireless the way you want it. Disable DHCP server/service on the router. Connect one of the LAN ports on the Planex router to your existing wired network. After doing this, all computers on the network, both wired and wireless, will be able to communicate with each other.

HAhaha.
Spent several hours working through your links and manuals, thanks.
All to no banana.
There's a switch on the front of the laptop that looks like a lid lock. My wife this morning says, "It says here this is a no cable connection (wireless LAN) button".

Just flicked the switch and boom, picks up 3 signals from our AP as well as 2 from the neighbors. Works great now! Hahaha! Lost in translation!

So problem solved, everybody happy. Getting the laptop wireless was the reason for the router/ap purchase.

As a side, why are there 3 or 4 signals coming from the router/AP? "planexuser", "planexuser-wps" are always there (and locked). "planexuser2" comes up (unlocked) when I use the WPS switch. The laptop (not my iphone) also picked up a 4th signal with no name (from our router, as the signal was too strong).

As a side, my iphone works OK if I use the WPS button to connect. But after a few minutes, it stops, and I am locked out again until I manually push the WPS button.

Anyway, thanks alot again for the useful help!
