Easy FX-55 question..

Hi all

I am going to be purchasing a FX-55 processor soon, and I just had two questions..

a> are there any plans to release something bigger and better than this in the immediate future? (there's no "fx-60" or something like that due out right??)

b> there is alot of talk these days about the different cores (newcastles vs winchester vs venice, sheesh!) is this something I should be concerned about when I'm buying this FX-55? Should I wait for the venice fx-55 or something?

The reason I want a processor of this caliber is because supposedly SLi capabilities are limited by what your processor can do overall, and i'm going to have dual 6800 ultras soon :]

thanks all!!

All new FX's will be the San Diego Core, not the Venice Core. FX-57 is due anytime now.

However, fx-55's still retail at like $850, so you might save some mula, get a fx-55, and wait for a high powered dual-core (Something along the lines of the 4800+, suposedly dual-fx-57's) down the road aways.

If he's using it for gaming then dual core will be of no benefit.

At this point, no. In the future, yes, dual core will benefit gamers. That's why I say FX-55 now, dual core 1y down road, when software developers start utilizing multi-thread programing for new games.
