Coming out of the power supply, what is the blue/black 3-pin wire for? Since the 412 is a "Smart Fan" PS, I imagine this wire is for monitoring the fan speed and thus should be connected to the mobo's PWRFAN connection. Am I correct?
 
I connected mine directly to the mobo and it is working fine. I believe it is used to power and monitor the PSU fan.

You are 100% correct its for fan sensors on the PSU.
