Hey my friend plan on buying a BFG 7600 GS oc 512mb to play oblivion. Should It work at least 😛 with a P4 2.8 and 512mo of RAM?

His max resolution is 1280x1024 Btw

Maybe not in High but medium should work right 😛 ?

The card is AGP too 😛

Also is it compatible with Shader 3 ?

512MB of RAM is overkill for that GPU and memory bandwidth. Also, he should have at least 1GB (preferably 2GB) of RAM for games. How much is he paying for that card?

Yes, the card is compatible with Shader Model 3.0.

at least a 7600gt. theyre pretty much the same price, and gt has much more performance. better yet, 1950pro

He'll get this card from staples its the best one in AGP they have (The Gt would have been my choice 😀)

I suggest him using their price warranty (so he'll get it around 50$ cheaper 😛) priced at 219$ canadian to 140$ with it 😛

I'll tell him this card isnt that powerfull and changing completely is machine would be better but at least for around 120$ in US fonds (yeah the card is 140$ canadian)

And yeah I know 512mo is really week 😛

I came from a P4 1.7 512mo to a E6400 2go that's a jump !

i have a x1950 pro agp, on a P4 2.8 with 1024mb of ram

I don't play oblivion, so I don't know how much cpu power is needed for that game.

but for some other games I play, I am not all that cpu limited , only slightly
I can play some of my games at 1600x1200 at high setting fairly well

I would but that's the best Staples has to offer 😛

It's why I should talk about changing completely is computer OR he should order a good one on NCIX

yep, at 1280x1024 you will be cpu limited in most games, at 1600x1200 is were the change seems to take over for me on a few games

Searching for a better alternative on NCIX.com and Futureshop.ca, I realize the dearth of AGP cards. The 7600GS is weak, but there is nothing obviously better in the same price range. It would cost $100 more to get a 7600GT AGP, and I doubt its worth putting that much money into AGP at this stage.
