Easiest way to make the taskbar clear?

I have both stylebuilder and stylexp and I can not figure out how to make the taskbar in windows xp clear. Is there an easy way to do this?

Thanks.

Thanks. Do you know where this setting is? I have a gforce 3 and I can't find this setting under display properties.

ok go to the advanced video properties, go to the tab for Nvidia, then go to the section titled Desktop Utilities.

Check the box saying 'Enable Desktop Manager'. Then hit the Configuration button, then under the 'Effects' tab you will see a checkbox for 'Enable taskbar transparency'. Check it, set the percent, hit apply and youre done. You may have to restart for the nView service to kick in.

Ya gotta tweak the right percentage, i think 40% looks pretty good, while still being able to SEE whats on the taskbar!

By the way, you MAY need newer drivers to have these options. Having a GF3, im sure you keep fairly up to date, yes? I believe all the detonator versions have it. If you cant find these options, just get the latest drivers from Nvidia (be sure to uninstall first!)

best of luck, have fun. lemme know if you run into trouble

Thanks I just formatted so Im just using the basic driver that came with my card. I'll get the latest drivers from Nividia. What do you mean be sure to uninstall first? Are you saying I should uninstall my drivers now before I install the new ones?

yes, its usually best to first uninstall old drivers, reboot with just the windows drivers, install the nvidia ones, then reboot. do that each time. it makes for a much cleaner install, and performance usually turns out a lot better, not to mention you will be free of any potential conflicts.

I found your instructions by searching. Thanks.

One small (or maybe big) problem. When I click on Apply to save the changes, my taskbar goes clear. But when I click on OK, my taskbar goes back to normal? If I go back into the settings, the check mark is now NOT checked next to the 'Enable taskbar transparency'

Any ideas?
Running XP Pro/SP1, using a Leadtek GF3 Ti200 w/40.72 dets.

de i think ive had that problem many a time. Either that, or it WILL be checked, but the taskbar WONT go translucent. You may want to just verify that youre ENABLING nView Desktop Manager (on the main nView page I think). Then set it, apply your transparency, then try rebooting.

Glad my instructions could be of some service to you 🙂

give that a try and let me know if youve still got issues.

thanks for the info Matthew. I've follwed your instructions to a T. It still won't stay checked even after a reboot. It's no big deal, I can live without it. Just thought it would be cool.
Thanks for your help anyway.
